Will Roadmaster Base Plate on 2005 Mini Cooper Fit Roadmaster Falcon 5250

Updated 02/06/2026 | Published 01/28/2026

Question:

I am considering flat towing a 2005 Mini Cooper Convertible. I already have an older Roadmaster Falcon 5250 tow bar with safety cables that came with the RV. From my research on your website it looks like the Roadmaster 521876-1 base plate fits the mini cooper. Is this base plate compatible with my existing tow bar? I only found one light kit RM 155 listed as fits. However, in several comments RM 15267 is mentioned in relation to other minis and it looks like a better wiring kit. The site states that the 2nd part number is not compatible with a 2005 mini cooper. Which lighting kit do you recommend for my particular 2005 mini convertible? I am also looking at the E52ZV if I need to lower the hitch ball. Am I missing anything.

Hi Gerald; your Falcon 5250 will work with the Roadmaster EZ Base Plate Kit # 521876-1. However, this is a crossbar style base plate so you will also need the Replacement Quick Disconnect Crossbar Assembly for Roadmaster Tow Bars # 910021-00.

What you found is correct, you do not have to use the Bulb and Socket Kit # RM-155. The Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-15267 is the best option out there and will fit your vehicle. It also gives you a 6-way so you will be able to run a charge line.

I'm assuming you still have safety cables with your Falcon, and then the etrailer High-Low Adjustable Adapte # e52ZV will keep your setup level. Do you have a brake system?

If you don't I recommend the Curt RVi Series Shadow 2 # RVI94FR. This is a permanent installation, comes with the Bullseye monitor for your motorhome, and also includes a charge line. If you switch vehicles often and would prefer a portable system, check out the Curt RVi Series 4 Portable Flat Tow Brake System # RVI44FR and TBC+ # RVI74FR.

Where are you headed once you get the Mini Cooper all set up?

I towed my 2005 Mini Cooper Convertible from North Carolina to Yellowstone and back, logging over 11,000 towing miles using the Roadmaster EZ Base Plate Kit #521876-1. I’ve had zero problems with it. Installation was straightforward, but one important tip: install the U-bolts before tightening the other bolts. I’ve installed this base plate twice. The second time was necessary when I had to replace the water pump, which required removing the entire front end of the Mini. Be aware that installation does require cutting the lower bumper cover. Overall, this has been a reliable, well-designed kit, and I wouldn’t hesitate to use it again.

First trip will be to Key West this spring then a trip to the Grand Canyon in later summer. Ordering what you suggested and will install as soon as it arrives. Thank you for the tech help now I got to get installed before Spring weather moves in and I am ready to go.
