Hey Mark, congrats on the new camper! For your 2013 F-150 pulling a 2026 Rockwood 2523 MBR I recommend the following trailer hitch:

- Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class IV - 2" # C14002

This is a 10K rated hitch and will fit all 2013 F-150 models without a factory hitch.

As far as a weight distribution system, here is what I recommend:

- Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control - 10,000 lbs GTW, 1,000 lbs TW # EQ37100ET

The Equal-i-zer systems are fantastic. They are super well-made and provide great results. This particular system is for trailers with a hitch weight between 600 and 1,000 lbs. So, you will be right within that range to where you will see effective ride leveling and sway control. Overall I think you will be very happy with it.

One thing to keep in mind is the frame brackets for this WD hitch must be placed between 27" and 32" back from the center of the hitch ball. Please measure out the tongue of the trailer and make sure there are no obstructions in this area like propane tanks or batteries. As long as you have room for the brackets, the # EQ37100ET is a solid choice that will work well for you. It'll definitely make those long trips and windy stretches of highway less stressful.

What's the first trip you are planning with the new camper?

Highly recommend the 10,000 pound e4. Best hitch under $1,000. The e2 was adequate on my 27’ trailer but when I went to the e4, the difference when towing in the wind was night and day. Last year I moved up to a 32’ trailer and used the e4 to tow from Texas to Nova Scotia Canada and back without issues. I tow with a 2018 F150.

Totally agree with expert comments. I would double check your tow vehicle, however. I towed a 6000 lb Apex with my F150 with 2.7 L eco-boost engine. it did the job, but that size trailer on that truck put strain on it. I upgraded to a RAM 1500 with 12,000 lb tow capacity. big difference, easy, balanced tow now. This hitch also makes at least 50% of the difference... keeps the trailer pulling smooth, straight and with little effort from the steering wheel. e-trailer has given me great service and advice through buying two hitches and half dozen other accessories. they know their business. enjoy the trailer!

@RogerB Appreciate you sharing that perspective, Roger. That’s a great real-world comparison between trucks, and you’re spot on about how much difference proper tow vehicle capacity makes. Going from the F-150 to the Ram 1500 with more headroom changes the whole towing experience. Glad to hear the hitch helped dial things in even further and that the setup is towing smooth and straight now. Thanks for the kind words and for taking the time to pass along what you learned, that’s solid info for anyone trying to decide on truck and hitch upgrades.

It works! With the equalizer hitch I was able to transfer weight back over the trailer axles and steer axle as confirmed by weighing my truck and trailer at a Cat Scale. Also, I recommend lubricating the torsion bars at both ends and adding the silencer tab thingies to reduce noise. As for my truck, I have '17 GMC Canyon with a Duramax and I can confirm handling is improved with the equalizer hitch in use.

@LawrenceC Thanks for sharing that, Lawrence. Verifying the setup on a CAT scale is the best way to know the weight distribution is actually doing its job, so that’s great info. Glad to hear it tightened up the handling on your Canyon as well. Solid real-world feedback that’ll help others set theirs up the right way.

Thank you so much for your time and assistance. I hope the first trip will be to a lake around Mt. Hood. I will check with the dealer regarding making sure we have room for the brackets. I really appreciate your help. I also appreciate the comments from others. Thank you :)
