Can Ventline Vanair Trailer Roof Vent w/ 12V Fan Install on Side Wall of Trailer

Updated 01/21/2026 | Published 01/20/2026

Question:

I saw a post in your customer reviews about using the Ventline Vanair Trailer Roof Vent w/ 12V Fan on the sidewall of a sherpa trailers. Is that an allowed installation ? Will there d any issue with water entry in that position ? I am looking to place 1 or 2 of them on a cargo trailer that I use for storage. Like you, I dont want to put a hole in the roof, but was concerend about water on a side mount. Id be leaving them open at all times and having the power controled by a timer to refresh the air a few times a day. Thanks for your thoughts.

Hey Joseph, the Ventline Vanair Trailer Roof Vent w/ 12V Fan # VP-543SP that you referenced was not designed for installing on the sidewall of a trailer so we can't guarantee it wouldn't let water in if it was raining... BUT the Sherpa trailers guy who installs them on the sides of the trailers would have mentioned that they let water in though I would assume. So I'd feel pretty confident that you'd be fine as long as you installed it properly and had it closed when not in use.

Thanks--- but I'll want it open all the time, and I saw a breakdown of the fan so I don't think it will work. I've found some purpose built side wall fans available that I'll check into.

That’s a great idea, I don’t see any reason that it would not fit fit the application on the side wall. RJ
