Question:

I am trying to replace the leaf springs on a kitty hawk trailer for a laser sailboat. I can’t seem to find any information online as to what the leaf springs specs are or axle weight info. Can you please help me with this and let me know what leaf springs you recommend I get?

Hey Cooper, thanks for the picture. As you've found out there is no database that shows what parts or part numbers are on trailer's like your Kitty Hawk. In order to find the correct size replacement springs you'll need to take a measurement.

What you'll need to do is get the weight off of the suspension on one side of your boat trailer by jacking it up. Springs tend to stretch out over years of use so this is the only way to get an accurate measurement. Once you do that you'll need to measure from the center of one mounting hole to the center of the other straight across. I'll need to know this measurement and the number of leafs in your spring pack to recommend you the correct replacement leaf springs.

As far as finding out the capacity of your axle. There should be a tag somewhere on it. If not you can measure the diameter of the axle to get a good idea.
