Is There A Modern Replacement Camper Converter For Old WFCO WF-9845 12V AC to DC Converter?

Updated 01/13/2026 | Published 01/07/2026

Question:

Can the PowerMax PM34VR replace my older WFCO WF-9845 converter? I have this older 45a unit in my camper and it finally crapped out.

Yes, Linda - the PowerMax # PM34VR 45 amp is a proper replacement for the WFCO WF-9845 standalone converter. Both units (this new one and your old one) are designed to supply 12V power to a DC fuse panel and charge the battery when plugged into shore power / generator power.

Staying at the same 45-amp rating is ideal if you haven’t increased your battery capacity or added heavier 12V loads. It keeps wiring requirements the same and avoids unnecessary changes.

What type of batteries are you running right now? If you upgraded batteries to higher AH rating, or plan to, you may have better luck upgrading to something like the 55A version # PM94VR or the 60A version # PM44VR.

I’m still running a single group 24 lead acid battery. No plans to add more right now. It works fine for my lights and chargers for the few hours I'm not using my generator. Usually we run the generator all night to stay warm anyways.

@Linda Oh perfect! In that case sticking with the # PM34VR is the best option. With a single group 24 lead acid battery, you won’t gain much by stepping up in amperage, and keeping the same size avoids any wiring changes.
