Can I Upgrade My Camper's 60A Converter With A 100A Converter For More Current And Faster Charging?

Updated 01/13/2026 | Published 01/06/2026

Question:

When would someone actually need the 100 amp PowerMax PM84VR instead of a 60 amp converter? I'm thinking about doing this on my Keystone single axle camper. thanks.

Eric, the 100A PowerMax Converter Charger for RVs # PM84VR really comes into play for larger battery banks and faster charging needs. If someone is running 300Ah or more of 12V batteries - especially lithium - or relies heavily on short generator/shore power runs to recharge, the 100-amp output can dramatically reduce charge time compared to smaller converters.

That said, it’s not automatically “better” for every RV. A converter this size may require heavier gauge DC wiring and fuse box setup, and it’s more than most standard travel trailers actually need.

If you’re mostly plugged into shore power with one or two batteries, a 55A converter # PM94VR or 60A converter # PM44VR is usually a better fit. Tell me a little about your battery setup and how you camp, and we can narrow it down.

I’ve only got one 100Ah lithium battery right now and mostly camp with hookups. Sounds like the 100A would be overkill then.

@Eric Nice! So with a single 100Ah lithium and regular shore power, the 55A # PM94VR or 60A # PM44VR will be plenty. The # PM84VR really starts to make sense once you’ve got a much larger battery bank or you’re trying to cram a lot of charging into short generator runs.
