Can PowerMax Converters Be Used Without 12V Battery In The Camper?

Question:

Can these PowerMax converters run my 12V system even if the battery is disconnected? My camper doesn't have one right now.

Hey Chris! Yes, PowerMax converters like the # PM34VR 45 amp, # PM94VR 55 amp, # PM44VR 60 amp, and # PM84VR 100 amp can supply 12V DC power to your system even if a battery isn’t connected. When plugged into shore power, they’ll convert AC power to 12V DC and run your lights, fans, water pump, and other 12V loads directly via the DC fuse box.

That said, without a battery in the system, you won’t have any 12V power once shore power is disconnected. For most RV setups, having a battery in place is still recommended for stability/buffer and off-grid use. I'd at least look into a single lithium 12V battery which can be found just about anywhere now days. For example, the # RS74VR would work well, but it does come down to how much capacity you need for off-grid use.

How do you plan to use your 12V system - mostly plugged in, or off-grid as well?

So this would work fine for a camper that’s always plugged in at a seasonal site? thanks, Gerald

@Gerald Hello Gerald. Yes, if the camper is always on shore power, the PowerMax converter will run the 12V system just fine on its own. You’d only need a battery if you want 12V power when unplugged or for a little buffering if power drops. You won't have any issues with this setup :).
