Features to know about

Charging That Does What You Tell It To

PowerMax charging stage display

Most stock converters decide when to charge harder and when to back off, so you don't always know what your battery is actually getting. This adjustable converter puts you in control with three selectable modes: fixed voltage, 2-stage, and full 3-stage smart charging. Pick the approach that fits the way you're using your rig, whether you want hands-off charging and maintenance or you want the converter to stay right where you set it.

With 100 amps available, this converter is a good fit when you're charging between off-grid stops and want to push current during shorter generator runs. It also supports flooded, AGM, gel, and lithium batteries by letting you manually adjust voltage. So instead of one generic charging pattern on every setup, you can dial in the output your battery calls for, and your setup behaves the way you expect in an RV, a boat, or anywhere you need dependable 12V power.

Fixed Voltage Mode: Steady 12V Power and More Predictable Battery Charging

PowerMax fixed charging stage display

When your converter keeps jumping between charging modes, your 12V system can feel unpredictable: lights subtly change, fans ramp up and down, and you're left wondering if something is wrong or if it's just the charger doing its thing. Fixed voltage mode solves that by letting you choose one steady output voltage and hold it there, so your gear gets consistent power instead of riding along with boost, normal, and float changes. You get fewer "why did that just change?" moments, you can match a specific voltage your battery prefers, and your voltage stays steadier when multiple loads are running.

Numbers You Can See and Trust

PowerMax digital display on top of the converter/charger

The built-in LCD screen shows real-time output voltage, making it easy to confirm that charging is happening at the level you expect. No matter if you're plugged into shore power, running a generator, or testing on the bench, you can watch the voltage climb, settle, and hold where you set it.

Made for RV Use, Not Just a Workbench

The compact, deck-mounted design works for larger systems and bigger battery banks. The temperature-controlled fan helps manage heat without adding unnecessary noise. Built-in current limiting, overload, and short-circuit protection support reliable operation whether you're charging overnight or pushing current during short generator runs.

I like the PowerMax PM94VR because it gives you a lot of control without making things complicated. It’s a really nice option if you’re adding a converter to a small trailer or working with a setup that doesn’t have a full power center.

I especially like the fully adjustable output voltage. You can dial it in to match your battery instead of being stuck with a preset charge profile, which is great if you’re running lithium or AGM batteries. From an install standpoint, that flexibility makes a big difference.

I also like that it has a built-in 3-stage battery charger, so it takes care of charging automatically when you’re plugged into shore power. For small or custom trailer builds, this is a simple, reliable way to get solid 12-volt power without overdoing it.

  • Can I Upgrade My Camper's 60A Converter With A 100A Converter For More Current And Faster Charging?
Eric, the 100A PowerMax Converter Charger for RVs # PM84VR really comes into play for larger battery banks and faster charging needs. If someone is running 300Ah or more of 12V batteries - especially lithium - or relies heavily on short generator/shore power runs to recharge, the 100-amp output can dramatically reduce charge time compared to smaller converters. That said, it’s not automatically “better” for every RV. A converter this size may require heavier gauge DC wiring and fuse box...

  • What Do The Different Charge Modes / Profiles Do On The PowerMax 12V AC To DC Converters?
Hey Ron, great question! The new PowerMax stand-alone converters like the 45A # PM34VR, 55A # PM94VR, 60A # PM44VR, and 100A # PM84VR give you three selectable charging modes so you’re not locked into one charging behavior. 3-stage mode factory default: Automatically cycles through boost 14.4V, normal 13.6V, and storage 13.2V to charge and maintain the battery(s). 2-stage mode: Uses boost and float only, which some users prefer for simpler charging behavior. Fixed voltage mode: Lets...

  • Can PowerMax Converters Be Used Without 12V Battery In The Camper?
Hey Chris! Yes, PowerMax converters like the # PM34VR 45 amp, # PM94VR 55 amp, # PM44VR 60 amp, and # PM84VR 100 amp can supply 12V DC power to your system even if a battery isn’t connected. When plugged into shore power, they’ll convert AC power to 12V DC and run your lights, fans, water pump, and other 12V loads directly via the DC fuse box. That said, without a battery in the system, you won’t have any 12V power once shore power is disconnected. For most RV setups, having a battery...

  • Can PowerMax Converters Power 12V Lights and Water Pump When Plugged Into Shore Power?
Great question, Mark. PowerMax converters like the # PM44VR 60 amp - along with the # PM34VR 45 amp, # PM94VR 55 amp, and # PM84VR 100 amp - do both jobs at the same time when you’re plugged into shore power or running a generator. They convert the incoming AC power to 12V DC and send that power directly to your DC distribution panel, so your 12v lights, 12v water pump, 12v fans, and other 12V accessories run normally. At the same time, the converter also sends current to the battery to...

  • Enclosed Trailer Solar Setup - Can I Use Converter To Power Accessories And Charge Batteries?
Hey there Josh. That sounds really neat! And yes, the PowerMax standalone converters like the # PM84VR 100 amp work great for setups like that. When solar can’t keep up or you’re back at home or even in the woods, the converter lets you plug into AC power / generator and quickly recharge the battery bank while still running your 12V loads. This will allow the batteries to be load-free when charging, whereas if you wired the accessories straight to the battery and had a standard charger,...

  • Do RV Converters Like PowerMax 12V AC To DC Converters Work With Series And Parallel Battery Wiring?
They do, Megan. PowerMax converters like the 45A # PM34VR, 55A # PM94VR, 60A # PM44VR, and 100A # PM84VR can charge batteries wired in series or parallel, as long as the total system voltage is 12 volts. That means you can run multiple batteries to increase capacity, whether you’re building a larger lead-acid bank or upgrading to lithium. So, you can have a single 12v, 2 12v wired in parallel, or even 2 6v wired in series, and the converter will still see 12v and be able to charge the...

  • Can I Replace Old WFCO Or Progressive Dynamics Standalone Converter With New PowerMax Unit? AC to DC
Yes, Alan - PowerMax converters are a direct replacement for several common standalone converter models. For example: - # PM34VR 45 amp replaces WFCO WF-9845 - # PM94VR 55 amp replaces WFCO WF-9855 - # PM84VR 100 amp replaces WFCO WF-68100, Progressive Dynamics PD-9180, PD-9280, and Iota DLS-90IQ4 These are all converter-only units that feed a DC fuse panel, not integrated power centers. As long as your existing converter is a standalone unit and not built into a power center, the PowerMax...

  • How To Quickly Charge 12V Lithium Battery Bank With Generator And Power 12V Loads At Same Time
Hey Rob. Yes, that’s exactly the type of situation the PowerMax # PM84VR 100 amp converter is built for. When you’re charging a large lithium battery bank, the batteries can accept much higher current than traditional lead-acid batteries, especially when they’re at a lower state of charge. With the # PM84VR, you can push significantly more charging current during short generator runs, which means less runtime and more usable power stored in the batteries. At the same time, the converter...

Good morning Brian! Yes sir, the PowerMax # PM84VR 100 amp converter can replace a Progressive Dynamics PD-9180 standalone converter as that is a direct replacement. Both units are designed to supply high-current 12V power and charge larger battery banks. It will wire in where your old one was and work basically the same way. This unit is updated and has different smart charging profiles, and works with just about any battery type (flooded, AGM, gel, and lithium batteries etc.). What...

  • Replacing WFCO 68100 Converter With Newer Updated PowerMax 12V AC to DC Converter
Hey Trevor! Yes, the PowerMax converter # PM84VR 100 amp is a direct replacement for the older WFCO WF-68100 converter. Both are standalone 100-amp converters, not integrated in a power center, and they fill the same role in the electrical system. The # PM84VR will convert shore/generator AC power to 12V DC, supply your DC loads through the fuse panel, and charge the battery bank just like the WFCO did. It’s not meant to replace a converter that’s built into a power center, but for standalone...
