Will the Set Screws Sit Flush on the 3" Gen-Y Anti-Rattle Reducer Sleeve?

Updated 01/28/2026 | Published 01/02/2026

Question:

are the set screws on this adapter flush/recessed when tightened? i ordered the 2.5inch Gen-Y 9inch for my 2020 Newmar superstar 4051 and the rig receiver is 3. however my blue-ox Apollo is a 2.5inch shank so i dont want a 3inch hitch. also, aside from a reducer, is there a 3inch shank to 2.5inch receiver hitch setup that i could utilize for the tow bar? i am towing a 2022 ram 2500 with a golf cart in the bed.

Hey Ed, welcome back! The set screws will definitely be flush when you use the Gen-Y Anti-Rattle Reducer Sleeve item # GY22YR. The sleeve is going to be held on securely with those screws to your Blue Ox Apollo item # BX7470. I attached a picture below so you can see how it'll look installed.

The only extenders we have that fit a 3" receiver are the TorkLift Cannon Hitch Extension like item # TLE1636. However, they're designed specifically for the Ford factory 3" hitch. They're not rated for non-Ford hitches due to the support chains and how they're required to be setup. Other than that the only hitch extenders I have for a 2-1/2" receiver reduce down to 2" like the item # C45048 or item # e53YR. Even the High-Low adapters like item # RM-058-4 that fit a 2-1/2" receiver drop down to 2".

Hey Ed, how did the Gen-Y anti-rattle reducer sleeve work out with your Blue Ox Apollo setup? Did the set screws sit flush like you were hoping? Your feedback could really help others trying to match a 3-inch receiver with a 2.5-inch tow bar.

@JerredH hi Jerred, thanks for getting back to me. This sleeve worked great to expand my 2.5” hitch shank. There is still slight play but my hitch pins have spacers that tighten everything together reasonably well. I’m driving a Newmar Superstar with 2.5” Gen Y hitch to BlueOx Apollo (15k capacity) pulling a 2500 pickup with golf cart in bed

@EdK You're welcome! Glad the reducer sleave is working well for you. That's a massive setup! You definitely have the right tow bar. If you have any additional questions down the road don't hesitate to reach out.
