Will Air Bags Improve 2021 Chevy Silverado 2500 Ride Quality

Updated 01/05/2026 | Published 12/27/2025

Question:

I have a 21 Chevy 2500HD Z71 30,000 miles and rides so rough unless under weight. Would bags on front and rear smooth ride out? I’m looking at different tires, but I think the suspension is really rough. Thanks, Steve

Hey Steve, I have a great solution for you but air bag kits are actually a lot harsher than you'd think and would not improve your unloaded ride quality at all. Instead your best option is the Roadactive kit part # RAS3611-CHD which is only option that will actually improve ride quality when the truck is loaded and unloaded. It also helps improve handling as well.

Steve, I run a 2022 2500 Chevy and recently installed the RAS. I haul 10-15,000 pounds near daily and the RAS has helped a ton! I'm currently at 198,000 miles and noticed that after installing the RAS the transmission runs cooler, wind effect is minimized, squat is less, sway is less overall, traction seems to be better in snow (I live in Montana), and the unloaded ride is much better. I also have Timbrens, along with the RAS, and that combination is great. I highly recommend both, but the RAS will give you a totally different ride, loaded or unloaded. Also, I manage a fleet of these trucks and we run RAS on 4 currently.

@DanC Wow that's quite the endorsement! I wonder how it's able to reduce transmission fluid temperature though? That is super interesting.

@JamesonC I’m thinking it’s the axle wrap reduction, giving more torque to the wheels, thus increasing efficiency.

@DanC that's a really educated guess! I think you are right.
