How Can I Transport My Bike with My 2023 Honda Civic Si Sedan, the Trunk Mounted Aren't Compatible?

Updated 12/29/2025 | Published 12/25/2025

Question:

Looking for a trunk bike rack for a 2023 Honda Civic SI Sedan. Thule Passage rack will not fit due to the spoiler. Looks like Saris Bones 2 should work but your website says not compatible. Please advise.

Hello Allen,

The Saris Bones 2 # SA805BL is listed as not compatible with the 2023 Honda Civic Si sedan due to the rear spoiler. This rack relies on its upper hooks and feet sitting flat against the edge of the trunk lid, but the Si’s spoiler interferes with those contact points. When that happens, the straps end up pulling against the spoiler instead of the trunk itself, which can cause poor stability and could lead to damage. Because of that, both Saris and etrailer do not recommend using the Bones 2 on the Civic Si, even though it may look like it could work at first glance.

The best option I see for transporting your bike would be installing a trailer hitch. Based on my research, your Civic Si should not have a center exhaust. If that is the case, you can use the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Matte Black Finish - Class I - 1-1/4" # e46ZV. This hitch installs using the pre-existing holes in the vehicle frame, but you will need to trim the bumper slightly to allow the receiver to pass through.

Once the hitch is installed, a great bike rack option would be the Kuat Transfer V2 Bike Rack for 1 Bike - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Wheel Mount # KU64FR. This is a wheel mount style rack, so it avoids frame contact, and it can handle bikes weighing up to 60 pounds.

I know this probably is not the answer you were hoping for, but it is a setup that will work well and keep both your bike and vehicle protected.

Out of curiosity, what kind of bike do you have? Are you into trail riding at all? I got to work the BT Epic Bike Race here in Missouri this past October, and now I am trying to decide if I am crazy enough to train and ride it myself. It is a brutal course from what I hear, and people come from all over the US to take it on. If you get a chance, you should definitely look it up.
