Yakima BaseLine Roof Rack Crossbar Spread on 2017 Fiat 500

Updated 12/21/2025 | Published 12/20/2025

Question:

Website shows that the Y67RB fits the 2017 Fiat 500. Can you tell me how far apart I can mount the 2 rails? Can I separate them by 30 inches on this car?

Hey Paul! The crossbar spread is going to be the M4 number listed in the installation instructions and it is a fixed distance. For the Yakima BaseLine Roof Rack # Y67RB on your 2017 Fiat 500 that is 18". You won't be able to move the crossbars around to get the 30" spread you're looking for. Is this for something specific like a roof box?

Thanks Robin. It is for kayak saddles for carrying a sea kayak. Minimum width is usually considered 24 inches but 30 inches is preferable.

@Paul ah yeah that is going to be the case for any of the available roof racks. There isn't a lot of space up there to begin with. You might have to tow the kayak on a trailer.

@RobinH yeah, I do have a a Yakima Rack n' Roll which would be perfect for that except the National Park near me doesn't allow trailers. It appears Thule used to make a rack with extenders for the Fiat 500 to solve this issue but I guess it is not available any more.

@Paul I suppose if you have the roof space to get them 30" apart you could use the SeaSucker Monkey Bars Roof Rack # 298-SX6000B which is universal. These things stick to pretty much any surface so as long as you could spread them far enough apart that would do it.
