Will Curt Rebellion XD Shock Absorbing Ball Mount Work with 5,000 lb Boat Trailer

Updated 12/29/2025 | Published 12/19/2025

Question:

Will the Curt Rebellion XD shock absorbing hitch 15K serve any purpose if I am only towing a 5000 bass boat?

Hey Tom, yes the Curt Rebellion XD ball mount part # C45949-2516 will do a great job when towing a 5,000 lb boat trailer and you will feel a difference. While this has a 1,500 lb tongue weight capacity your tongue weight of between 500 and 750 lb would still be enough to activate the cushioning of this kit. Do you have an anti-rattle device on your current ball mount?

I do not have an anti rattle device yet, I was going to order the Curt unit. Trying to conclude on what size drop I will need if I go with the Curt Rebellion. My truck is a 2024 Yukon AT4, with a receiver height about 21”, with trailer approximately 18”. Do not want to get wrong drop and not be able to use it properly. Purchased boat but not picking up until weather breaks but wanting to purchase hutch relatively soon.

@Tom It sounds like you need a drop of about 3 inches but it depends on where you were measuring. You would want to measure from the top of the hitch opening on the hitch side and then measure from the bottom lip of the coupler down to the ground on the trailer when its sitting level. Is that where you measured.

No anti rattle device yet. Waiting to see what hitch first. What do you recommend for a cushioned 4” drop with 10k max

@Tom The Gen-Y Phantom Cushioned Ball Mount part # GY52VB would be a really great option. This has a torsion spring that provides cushioning and is adjustable up to 4-1/2 inches of drop and is rated for up to 10k total trailer weight. You have a 2 inch hitch right?
