Does Benton Basic Hitch Modular Cargo Carrier Clear Rear Hatch On 2017 Honda Odyssey?

Question:
I’ve got a 2017 Honda Odyssey. Does the rack block the rear hatch? I’m in and out of the back constantly with kids’ stuff.

Expert Reply:
Hey Joanna, you should be able to open the liftgate on your Odyssey - the Benton Modular Rack # B42FR tilts down, which gives most vans enough room to clear the hatch. Without any cargo loaded, it will definitely clear. Once you start adding some large items, though, the exact clearance depends on what you’re carrying and whether it’s mounted side-to-side or front-to-back, since the rack supports both layouts on those pairs of crossbars.
If you ever find that something sits too close, moving that accessory to the other bars may give you extra room when tilted.
