Will P3 Brake Controller be More Reliable with Electric Over Hydraulic Brakes

Question:
Hello. I have a 2022 Ford F450 w the factory brake-controller. I picked up a 2008 boat trailer with EOH brakes and only traveled a few miles before disc brakes overheated...they dont seem to be releasing. Local trailer shop replaced all 4 calipers trailer was sitting a few years but brakes continue to hang up. I just ordered your Tekonsha P3 from eTrailer and the wiring harness as my understanding is the Ford factory brake controller may have issues playing well with some actuators? My trailer has a Titan actuator. Thank you for your time. Jim

Hey Jim, what we have found is that integrated brake controllers that come with trucks just are not reliable with electric over hydraulic actuators even if they have a hydraulic mode like your 2022 F-450 has. The good news is that the Prodigy P3 part # 90195 that you are going with is super reliable and great performing with the EOH brakes so you'll be good. Did the shop tell you why the brakes were hanging up?

Thank you very much for your reply, Jameson! The Ford forums do discuss issues with the factory controllers but I didn't know if the complaints were legitimate or not, so thank you for confirming. The trailer shop wasn't able to find any problem with the trailer's brakes so everything is pointing to incompatibility with the factory setup. I will try to post again in a few days once I have the Prodigy installed and try again to haul this boat 300 miles home. Thanks again! Jim
