T4843800. Does the unit work with a factory Ford brake controller or is an adapter required? the truck in question is a 2006 F350 Superduty DRW. Thank you

The Titan Disc Brake Kit and BrakeRite Electric-Hydraulic Actuator - Tandem, 3,500-lb Axle # T4843800 is an excellent system that works seamlessly together. The 2006 Ford F-350 Superduty DRW does fall into the category where Ford's factory integrated controller does not work consistantly. I've atttached the technical bullitin that goes along with this issue.

The solution is to simply use an aftermarket brake controller and have your local Ford dealer turn off the TBC. This will remove the fault code and the process can be reversed should you ever desire to turn the brake controller back on.

For a compatible brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195. This is an extremely easy to use controller that has an LCD screen. It takes code deciphering out of the equation and is adjustable for your preferences. This controller connects to your dash using the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers - Ford # 3065-P. I have linked a page to all the brake controllers that will work with EOH systems for your convenience.

Hi Jason. I have a 2022 F450 w factory brake-controller. Picked up a trailer with EOH brakes and only got a few miles before disc brakes overheated...they don't seem to be releasing. Local trailer shop replaced all 4 calipers (trailer's been sitting) but brakes continue to hang up. I just ordered your Tekonsha P3 and wiring harness as my understanding is the Ford factory brake controller may have issues playing well with the Dexter actuator? You mention a Ford TSB being attached in your previous posting but I'm not seeing the TSB? Thank you for your time. Jim

@JimS Hey Jim. It’s possible the bulletin was removed for a variety of reasons, so I do apologize for that. Most, if not all, trucks equipped with a factory brake controller will have trouble recognizing an aftermarket controller. In many cases, the truck’s computer needs to be flashed so it “forgets” the factory controller, preventing it from defaulting to it. Before getting a dealer involved, you can try checking the trailer-brake pin on the truck’s 7-way connector to make sure it isn’t constantly hot. The pin you’ll want to test is at the 5 o’clock position. With the truck on and running, there should be no signal at that pin unless the manual override is activated. If the pin is not hot, then we know the plug is fine. If it is hot, there’s an issue with the plug itself. I've also linked our trailer wiring FAQ for reference if needed.

@GwendolynY Thank you so much for following up, Gwedolyn! I will check that pin at 5:00 and see if that is where my problem is. Thank you again. Jim

@Jim Anytime! If things still don't seem to add up after your testing let me know.
