Replacement Leaf Springs for Boat Trailer

Updated 12/08/2025 | Published 11/27/2025

Question:

I am looking to replace a broken leaf spring on my boat trailer. 20 1/4inch eye to eye, 3 leaves. The documentation I have for the other springs indicates that each one is rated for 1500 lbs. This spring appears to be rated only at 1000 lbs- but for a 2000 lb. axle- is that correct? The last spring broke while on the highway deep rut on interstate so I want to make sure that I get the highest rated capacity spring possible.

Hello again Christopher, what is your axle capacity? The Dexter Double Eye Leaf Spring for 2,000-lb Trailer Axles # 072-017-00 does have a capacity of 1,000 lbs per leaf spring. It is important to at least get leaf springs that match your axle capacity. The closest thing we have in that length is the # DX73CR which is for 2,800 lb axles and measures 20-1/2" long. That extra 1/4" won't hurt but again, make sure this at least matches your axle rating.

Hey Christopher, how did things go with the 2,800‑lb leaf springs you were looking at for your boat trailer? Your update could make it easier for others trying to match their axle rating and spring length.
