Does Convert a Ball Fifth Wheel to Gooseneck Offset Adapter Provide Turning Clearance

Updated 11/26/2025 | Published 11/25/2025

Question:

Would you recommend this hitch for a 2012 Ford F-250 w/ 6’-9” 81.9” bed w/ a B and W flip gooseneck ball? I currently have a B and W Companion slider fifth wheel hitch. I’m needing my bed floor space so I’m exploring gooseneck adapters. Thank you in advance for your response.

Hey Mark, so the Convert a Ball Gooseneck adapter part # CAB-C5GX1216 might work for you but it is not going to give you the same turning clearance as the slider hitch you have now. It only has an offset of 7-1/2 inches and since that offset turns with the trailer around corners it won't offer much help in that regard. So here's what I would say...if you have to use the slider mechanism of your fifth wheel hitch I wouldn't go this route. If instead you are able to tow with the hitch slid forward all of the time even around corners this adapter would work for you.

Thanks Jameson. Although I have a slider hitch, I have never used the slider option. One follow-up question, I’ve read other responses experiencing this hitch hitting either the tailgate or the sides of the truck bed while turning; will either of these be an issue for me and my truck bed?

@MarkT Since you don't use your slider then this would have enough clearance for sure. As long as your truck doesn't have the Ram Boxes (it doesn't) and as long as it's sitting level you won't have clearance issues with the # CAB-C5GX1216. We also have the version without the offset part # CAB-C5G that would be less likely to interfere if you were wanting to be cautious about this.
