Question:

Why is the fifth wheel gooseneck adapter not recommended for a factory installed gooseneck prep package. I have a 2020 gmc denali with prep package and a 2024 f450 with prep package. So u mean it wont work on those factory installed gooseneck prep packages?

Hey Steve,

The factory installed prep package is compatible with the Convert-A-Ball Cushioned 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Adapter # CAB-C5G.

What won't work is using one of the gooseneck balls with a latch on top, like the Reese # RP23FR (which comes with some of the prep packages). Reason for that is the latch contacts the nut that is inside the # CAB-C5G and it damages the ball.

So to use the Convert-A-Ball you'd just need a gooseneck ball that does not have that latch, and is just a solid piece. For one that fits your GMC and Ford you can use the B&W Ball and Safety Chain Kit # BWGNXA2061.
