Transition Plate To Bridge 3" Gap On Wells Cargo Motorcycle Trailer

Published 11/19/2025

Question:

I’ve got a Wells Cargo motorcycle trailer with about a 3-inch recess at the rear. Would one of these plates work to bridge that?

Hey Brandon! Yes, either M-3 transition plate (steel # M368FR or aluminum # M348FR) will do the job, but I’d go aluminum # M348FR since it’s easier to trim and won’t rust if water gets in that recessed area. Just mount it across the lower edge of the door and let the hinge float over that 3-inch. If you were hauling heavier equipment, I'd lean towards the steel for a little more reinforcement, but the aluminum is plenty strong for your setup.

What type of motorcycles do you have? I always have a dirtbike of some sort in the garage.
