Recommended Ladder for a 2018 Honda Ridgeline for Transporting Kayaks

Published 11/09/2025

Question:

We want this to help with stability while carrying our sea kayaks 17long on our Ridgeline. We want the front of the boats secured on the cab and the back or middle secured on the rack. Is the rack adjustable by height? Is there a concern with this line of thought for securing sea kayaks ~ 2foot wide and ~ 2inch deep dont know if we would carry them flat or on the side.

Hey Theresa. You can definitely use the Fas-top JayBar Truck Bed Rack item # FT57GJ to transport your kayaks. The uprights are not adjustable. You will need to have either the Fas-Top Pro Soft item # FT72GV or the Sport Soft item # FT79SV roll-up tonneau covers installed on your 2018 Honda Ridgeline. The truck bed rack item # FT57GJ attaches directly to the covers.

I'm not sure how you would attach the kayaks to your cab but if you install the Thule Compass Kayak Roof Rack w/ Tie-Downs item # TH890000 to the bed rack you can definitely transport them vertically.

The Thule Compass item # TH890000 will attach directly to the crossbars and works with kayaks weighing 75 lbs or less apiece. It works with hulls up to 36" wide so your kayaks will fit perfectly. The included straps will secure the kayaks to the carrier. The bow and stern tiedowns can be used to stabilize the kayaks and tied to any attachment point in the front and rear of your Ridgeline.

Do you already have one of the Fas-top tonneau covers and how heavy are your kayaks?

You can add this information and any other questions you have where it says Reply to Jerred H and I'll be happy to answer them.

Our kayaks weigh about 60 lbs or so for our heaviest one. We hope to be able to use just a regular j carrier or something like the malone wings. I think it would be much easier to load and tie down if we can have 2 boats separated. rather than in the middle of the carrier. But we can make that call after we get the rack, we have plenty of carrier hooks to try before deciding. I hope that the cross bars will allow any type of kayak carrier, so we have a choice. You are right we will just use the ladder carrier for the tiedowns for the Kayaks. I didn't think it through when I was asking. Thanks again for working on the weekend. I could have waited for an answer, just in case you want to tell your boss, weekends are important to you. Have a good rest of the week.

@Theresa Ok, that makes sense! I can definitely see your reasoning for not wanting to mount the kayaks in the center of the rack item # FT57GJ. A J-carrier like item # MAL98FR would work really well too. You're welcome and thanks for your concern! I love working Sundays, it's completely voluntary, nice and quiet because there's not as many people working, my teenagers are off doing their own things, and I am well compensated. You have a great week as well!
