Question:
Hello, I have an aluminum frame snowmobile trailer with this coupler factory installed in a bolt-on configuration. I am looking to upgrade this coupler to a 2-5/16 ball for compatibility with my weight distribution hitch I am not concerned with additional weight capacity as the current 8,000 lbs matches my trailer. Because the frame already has been drilled, I am looking for something with the same bolt pattern, or at least one that overlaps this pattern if additional holes/bolts are necessary. I prefer to match the galvanized finish and do require the jack mounting holes, as a I have a Bulldog a-frame jack. For evidence, I have tried the Bulldog BD44150WH301 and those holes do not align.

Hello Robert, thanks for reaching out. Looking over all the 2-5/16" ball couplers we offer, I am not seeing we have anything that has holes that would match up with the holes on your # BD43805W0317 coupler. Your best bet would be to take a coupler like that Bulldog # BD44150WH301 you mentioned and simply drill new holes in the side of the coupler to match the holes on your trailer tongue.

Hey Robert, did drilling new holes in the Bulldog coupler line up well with your trailer’s existing bolt pattern? Knowing how that worked out could help others trying to upgrade their coupler for a weight distribution hitch.
