Hi Tom; does your trailer have brakes at all? Is this a single axle or tandem axle trailer? The best option for a pontoon trailer would be hydraulic since you will be putting it in the water. The first thing you need to do is make sure you have a brake flange on your 3,500 lb axle/axles.
Assuming you do, you can use the Hydraulic Brake Kit # AKFBBRK-35-D along with the # BRKH10B mounting hardware. These are free backing brakes so you don't have to worry about a lockout when you're in reverse. For a hub and drum assembly you can use the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-545-35-G-K.
You will also need a brake actuator like # DM72VR which fits a 3" wide trailer tongue. Finally, you will need a brake line kit like # DM6097 (single axle) or # DM6098 (tandem axle).
