How Much Longer Would Bulldog Coupler Be Than Standard Coupler

Updated 10/22/2025 | Published 09/24/2025

Question:

I have a 2024 Escape 21C travel trailer and am using a Blue Ox WDH. After a few issues decoupling the trailer with the original coupler, I want to switch to a Bulldog coupler. The Bulldog coupler dimensions are different than the original coupler and have required other Escape owners to move their propane tank tray. But I cannot find anyone who has both the Bulldog coupler and the Blue Ox WDH. It seems like moving the propane tank tray and the longer Bulldog coupler *may* interfere with where the Blue Ox brackets need to be located. I cannot find any dimensioned drawings of the Bulldog BD028386 coupler. I could use the dimensions to compare with my current trailer tongue. Do you have any dimensioned drawings of the Bulldog BD028386 coupler?

Hey Marlin, from front to back the Bulldog Collar Lok part # BD028386 measures 17-5/8 inches. To get an idea how much longer this would be than what you have I would measure the overall length and the difference would be about how much closer to the front of the trailer your Blue Ox frame brackets would attach.

Hey Marlin, how did things go after checking the 17-5/8 inch length on the Bulldog coupler against your trailer tongue? Were you able to see how that affected the placement of your Blue Ox brackets? Your update could make it easier for others working with the same setup.
