Question:
How do I know if my HU74ZR’s surge module is used up? Do I have to replace the whole unit?

Terry, one of the Watchdog’s # HU74ZR best features is the replaceable surge module. If it takes a hit and uses up its capacity, the bulldog face will glow red, and the app will throw an E9 error code. You’ll also see Hughes’ toll-free number pop up, or go to hughesautoformers.com to order a replacement module # HU24ZR instead of replacing the entire unit. This is a really nice benefit compared to some others on the market.
Do you like the idea of keeping a spare module on hand, or just calling when you need one? I recommend grabbing a spare module # HU24ZR if it ever needs swapped out. Keep in mind, Watchdog will actually replace the module if it happens to get used up with 2 years of purchasing the surge protector. They are very easy folks to deal with!
