Question:

I want to replace the hubs on my boat trailer. I need a 5 × 4 1/2 hub. I have a 10 wheel but dont know what weight hub i need. The boat weighs 2000 lbs and the axle is a square tube 13/4 inches on each side.

Hi David; if I had to guess you probably have a 2k axle on your boat trailer, could be a 3,500 lb, but we will need to identify the bearings to find the right replacement. I'm assuming you don't have an axle tag, and square axle size isn't an indicator of capacity so we can't use that either. You will need to pull a hub off and check for bearing part numbers or measure the spindle/inner diameter (ID) of your bearings. See the attached picture.

If you find you have # L44643 inner and outer bearings with an ID of 1.00" you can use the # AKIHUB-545-2-1K. If you have # L44649 inner and outer bearings with an ID of 1.063" you can use the # AKIHUB-545-2-2K. If you have a different bearing combination/measurements let me know and I'll see what else is available.

Hi David, did you have a chance to check the bearing part numbers or measure the spindle on your boat trailer? I'm eager to help you find the right hub replacement once you have that information.
