Today we're going to take a look at the 10-inch uni servo hydraulic trailer brake assembly for 3500 pound axles. This the right hand passenger side assembly, and this has the nice dacromet finish to it. This hydraulic drum brake assembly is designed for use with surge type trailer brake actuators. This one has the nice dacromet coating, which is used a lot in marine applications, because it will provide superior corrosion resistance for freshwater or saltwater use. It is a Uni Servo design. You can see that's the single plunger design, and this type of design is nice because it'll still deliver about 20% braking in reverse.

It won't totally lock up the brakes. The size on this is 10 inch by 2 and a quarter inch. It's the right hand passenger side assembly, and when they say it's 10 inch by two and a quarter, what they're telling you, the 10 inch is the diameter. So if we put a ruler from edge of shoe to edge of shoe, it's ten inches. And then the two and a quarter means the width of the pad. So two and a quarter inches, so 10 by 2 and a quarter inch.

Also, another thing I want to mention to you is when you get these new, they'll always have a sticker on it that'll say right hand or left hand, but if by chance you ever see an assembly that does not have a sticker on it, the easiest way to tell what side it goes on is look at the size of the brake shoe on each pad. If you look here, the shoe is smaller or shorter, and over here the pad is a lot longer.So basically, what happens is the shorter shoe will always face, that's the primary shoe, that will face the front of the trailer, so if this is the shorter shoe, and that's the front of your trailer, if you position it this way, you can see that it's right hand passenger side assembly. Now these brake shoes are lined with an automotive grade friction material. This material is fully bonded, it's not riveted to the shoes. It gives you longer life, more braking torque.

Also on the pad itself, the lining, they do taper the edges, and then they do a circular grinding to help prevent cracking and crumbling that can lead to mechanical lockup. This is a manual adjust brake, so you do have to do a periodic manual adjustment on it. When you adjust it, you turn this gear down here. On this assembly, what's nice is they use a fine tooth brake adjustment gear. That gives you a more precise setting of your brakes, and there is no break in period needed following your initial adjustment.So when you go to adjust these, what you do is you'll go to the back, and at the very bottom will be two holes to get your tool in to adjust it.

If you'll notice on this assembly, comes with the plugs already in there, which is a nice feature. Some brake assemblies do not offer, they just leave the holes open. You don't really want to do that, because you could get dirt into your brake assembly and cause problems, so they actually include these rubber plugs. You just pop one off, put your tool through there, turn your adjustment gear right here to set your brakes where they need it to be. Again, the adjuster plugs are included, the mounting bolts, you can see, are also included. The nuts and the lock washers that will hold this onto your brake mounting flange, those are sold separately. We do sell those on our web site, and they are listed as a related product on this product page. And as you can see, this brake assembly does fit a for hole brake mounting flange. This assembly is certified by USSAE standards, and CSA, which is a Canadian standard.Again, the size is the ten inch by two and a quarter inch.
