Hi, I have a Reese 66558 and my friction pads are wearing out and they discontinued them , my question is, can I go without them? , dont really want to buy a new hitch because of this.....

No need for a whole new system, we have exactly what you need! Part # RP58527 will work with your # RP66558. Resee only offers them in a four pack because they will also work on the higher capacity systems like # RP66560 that uses two pads per bar so would need all four of them.

The only way to get the replacement shims for the Reese Steadi Flex weight distribution system is with the hardware kit part #RP58528 which comes with additional hardware as well.

The solution to preventing the friction pads part #RP58527 from damaging with the spring bar removal tool is the trailer jack like you mentioned. You shouldn't be using the tool to pull the bars down with that much tension. It's hard to say…
