Do Romik RB2 Running Boards Protect Rocker Panels From Gravel On 2024 Silverado 2500?

Updated 08/04/2025 | Published 07/29/2025

Question:

Do Romik boards stick out enough to protect the rocker panels from gravel? I do a lot of ranch road driving.

Caleb, the Romik boards (black # RMK69ER or silver # RMK49ER) for the 2020-2026 Silverado 2500 Crew Cab are 6" wide so that gives you about 6" of coverage in terms of width along the cab, and it runs the cab length which definitely helps with gravel deflection. They can also mount tight against the cab if you use the higher mounting holes on the install brackets, so you get protection and nice flush look along the cab.

For more aggressive protection, we could pair these with a mud flap set like WeatherTech Mud Flaps # WT25ER or Mud Skins Mud Flaps - Hex Shield - Polished Stainless Steel # P49ZR.

What do you think about this setup?

Appreciate the help, Andrew. One last thing - do these boards get slick when wet or icy? I’m out early in the mornings, and traction’s a big deal.

@Caleb Great call, Caleb. The RB2-Ts actually do a pretty solid job in wet or icy conditions. They’ve got a full-length tread pattern stamped into the aluminum that gives you decent grip, even when the weather’s nasty. That said, they’re not a rubberized surface, so while they’re better than smooth metal or plastic factory steps, they’re still aluminum underneath. If traction’s a daily concern, especially in frost or mud, you might consider adding some grip tape to the main entry zones; easy to apply, blends in well, and gives you that extra bite underfoot. A few customers I’ve worked with have done that, especially in colder climates or where early starts mean wet boots and dew-covered steps. I've actually added grip tape # CAM25401 to the entry of my trailer.
