What Inner Tube do You Have for My Bulldog Gooseneck Coupler that Doesn't Use Load-Bearing Pin?

Updated 07/29/2025 | Published 07/17/2025

Question:

I have an older style bulldog 20000 gooseneck hitch on my 2002 horse trailer. I was looking to replace the inner tube but it appears they have been required to change the style of this to have a load bearing pin. As I dont have a hole for a load bearing pin and I dont want to have to have an entire new hitch put into this trailer is there any inner replacement gooseneck tube for this that I can purchase that will work? I hope that makes sense! Tired of taking a hammer to this thing to get it connected and disconnected.

Hello Kristen,

The CG Convert-A-Ball Multi-Cushioned Gooseneck Coupler # CG is your best option to replace the inner tube on your older Bulldog gooseneck hitch. What makes it so great is that it doesn’t need a load-bearing pin to work. Since your current hitch doesn’t have a hole for that kind of pin, and you don’t want to replace the whole hitch, this coupler slides right into your existing 4-inch tube (please double check that yours is 4", I am showing in my research that is what it should be) and tightens in place with a set screw. No drilling or major changes needed.

It’s also stronger than what you have now, rated for up to 30,000 pounds, so you’re covered there. Plus, it has a cushioning system inside that helps smooth out the ride, that’s a big win since your hauling horses!

Enough about gooseneck couplers, what kind of horses are you hauling around in that trailer? I showed a little Western as a kid, my show horse was a Thoroughbred Quarter horse named Turbo, although there was nothing Turbo about him, he was just a gentle giant and my best friend.

Kate, Thank you for such a thorough answer. It takes the guess work out of ordering. We haul quarter horses in the trailer. My daughter rodeos. Way back one of her youth horses was an OTTB. He was an exceptional horse. We lost him last year at 31. While we raise and compete on quarter horses for rodeo my daughter works at a couple of race tracks with TBs and QH. Kris

@Kris My pleasure Kris! I am very sorry for your loss. Sounds like he lived a full life at 31 =) Very cool that your daughter works at the track. I sometimes go to horse hooky Tuesday at the Fairmont Track over in Illinois with my Dad, he has a couple of friends that own horses that race there. Always a good time sitting at their table. If you ever have any questions in the future, you know where to find us!
