Ways To Adapt The Yakima StageTwo Bike Rack To Fit A 2" Hitch

Updated 07/22/2025 | Published 07/16/2025

Question:

Is there an adapter to convert to a 2” hitch that still allows the built in anti-rattle tightening system to work properly?

Good question!

The standard way of adapting the Yakima StageTwo Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4" Y67VR to a 2" hitch would be to use something like the etrailer Trailer Hitch Reducer 2" to 1-1/4" Trailer Hitch Receiver # e63YR and the Pro Series Lock-Tite Anti-Rattle Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2" Hitches # PS63100 to both lock it and keep it from rattling.

What I would do though, is use the Replacement 2" Shank Adapter # 8880612. This technically isn't designed for use with the StageTwo, but it will fit with a little modification and imagination. If you look at the attached picture, you can see the differences and get an idea of how you would need to modify your current shank to make it work. Just keep in mind that this in not what it is intended for and will void your warranty.

What vehicle is this coming from that had a 1-1/4" hitch and what is it going on that has a 2" hitch?

I am looking to buy a bike rack that I can easily go between use on my 2022 Honda Odyssey (2") and my 2023 Toyota Camry (1.25").

@Soreno Gotcha. I would recommend checking out the following two racks as they would be great options: Saris SuperClamp EX Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Wheel Mount # SA4025F Swagman Chinook Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Frame Mount # S64683 The Saris is definitely the more premium option and will hold up to 60 pound bikes by the wheels/tires, so no touching of the bike's frame. If you aren't super worried about that and have lighter bikes, the Swagman will carry 35 pound bikes by attaching to the frame. It is also a lot less expensive. Both have locks for the bikes and rack, fold up when not in use, and work with 1-1/4" and 2" hitches. Either would be a solid choice, but I prefer to save money and my bike isn't all that nice, so I would grab the Swagman. If it were me, of course.

@LazerS I actually do need it to attach to the wheels (and not the frame) and have the ability to hold my friend's 50lb eMTB. My MTB has a 50 inch wheel base. Looks like the Saris' max wheelbase is 48 inches, which is a bummer because I like that price point better.

@Soreno Ok, the good news is we have a few options that fit this criteria. The not so good news is the cost. It goes up quite a bit when a rack is designed to fit a 50 pound bike with a 50" wheel base. I have all the options for that listed below: Thule Epos Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Wheel or Frame Mount # TH99XE Thule Epos Bike Rack w/ LEDs for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Wheel or Frame Mount # TH49XE Hollywood Racks Crosstrack Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Wheel Mount # HLY67RR Saris SuperClamp Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Wheel Mount - Tilting # SAR84YR These all have very similar features, so you would just need to choose which is best for you.
