Rear Wheel or Frame Mount

Thule Epos wheel mount clampsThule Epos frame mount clamps

The Thule Epos has telescoping masts with padded, rotating heads and ratcheting straps that grab your bikes firmly by the rear wheels or by the frames. This makes the rack perfect for carrying bikes with a carbon frame or custom paint job, bikes with fenders, and bikes with nearly any other frame style. To load a bike, lift it up onto the tray, wrap the mast strap around the rear wheel or the frame, and use the built-in lever to ratchet the strap tight.

Thule Epos sliding straps

The wheel trays have ratcheting straps to secure your front and rear wheels to the rack. The straps pivot to accommodate bikes with a variety of wheelbases. To secure your wheels, run the straps over each rim and back down through the strap buckles and use the levers to ratchet the straps tight. To remove your bike, press the ratchet levers to release the tray straps, then press the lever on the mast head to release the mast strap.

Thule Epos keepersThule Epos keepers

Keepers on the masts and on the trays prevent the straps from getting in your way while loading your bikes.

Grooved Wheel Trays

Thule Epos front wheel cradles

The Epos doesn't have cradles for the wheels like most platform-style bike racks. Instead, it has wheel trays that allow you to position your bikes on the rack exactly where you want them, not where the cradles dictate you place them. This helps prevent your handlebars and other bike parts from bumping into each other. Additionally, the trays have grooves in the tracks that accommodate narrow 18c road bike tires up to 3-3/16" tires. And, if you have a fat bike, straps (sold separately) that fit larger tires are available.

Spring-Loaded Foot Pedal for Easy Tilting

Thule Epos Tilting

The rack tilts down with your bikes loaded. So, whether you're at the trail or the grocery store, you don't have to remove your bikes to access your cargo area.

Thule Epos rear wheel cradle

To make tilting easier, the foot pedal is mounted on the front of the rack. This means you won't have to reach through or around your bikes with one hand to access a lever, while supporting the rack's weight with the other, when lowering the rack. Instead, you'll be able to hold the rack with both hands the entire time.

Thule Epos folded up

The trays and the shank fold up and the masts telescope down when not in use, so the rack doesn't take up as much space to store. Additionally, integrated wheels and a handle make the rack easy to roll to and from your vehicle.

Tool-Free Installation

Thule Epos InstallationThule Epos Installation

The rack quickly installs in your hitch receiver, without the need for tools. Open the SnugTite hitch pin, slide the shank into your receiver, close the pin so it slides through the pin hole and shank, then crank the lever until snug. Rotating the lever deploys an anti-rattle wedge in the shank to help take play out of the hitch connection.

Thule Epos folded up

You can install the rack in a 1-1/4" hitch or in a 2" hitch. To use it in a 1-1/4" hitch, simply remove the adapter with the included Allen key.

Complete Security for Bikes and Rack

Thule Epos Locks

The Epos includes One-Key System locks to secure your bikes to the rack and the rack to your vehicle. Locks on the head of the telescoping masts prevent the ratchet straps from releasing.

Thule Epos Lever Lock

The lock on the lever secures the rack to your vehicle. The lever can't be pulled out when locked, so a would-be thief can't operate it to remove the rack from your hitch. The locks are keyed alike so you can use the same keys for all the locks. Additional One-Key System locks (sold separately) let you make all your Thule products keyed alike.

Available Accessories

Thule Epos brake lights

To keep you visible and safe, an LED tail light kit and license plate holder (sold separately) are available. The lights are powered via the built-in wiring harness that plugs into your vehicle's existing 4-way connector. The holder keeps your license plate in full view so you can avoid costly tickets while traveling.

Thule Epos Ramp

An aluminum ramp (sold separately) lets you roll your heavy e-bikes on and off the rack, with no heavy lifting required.

Thule Epos Cable Lock

The ABUS cable lock (sold separately) adds a second layer of security for your bikes.

Very well built .

The carrier is well made and extremely sturdy. But it does not fold up close to the back of the vehicle. The wheel trays fold up to the center. But the whole rig sticks out the full length of the tack 3+ feet from bumper

Awesome design and build quality. No issues after 1 year. Also, I use it for e-bikes that weigh around 75 lbs. it handles it easily.

I purchased the Thule Epos bike rack to replace a defective Thule Easyfold XT2 bike rack. This rack is a significant improvement and after using it for a month now really like it's design and performance.

I use it to carry two Riese & Muller ebikes (combined weighing over 100 lbs) and the rack is very stable with the two bikes installed; virtually no lateral movement of the rack while driving and the ratcheting strap that is the primary attachment is rock solid in design and application. The Epos is a little wider than the Easyfold rack which allows the two wheels to be in more contact with the rack. I also noticed the spacing between two bikes was fat better on the Epos versus the Easyfold. There is no concern for contact of the two bikes which also makes it easier to remove each bike off the rack.
Although we only use the Epos for two ebikes, having the ability to transport a third bike is a nice bonus when having a solo friend to join on a ride.

Our ebikes both have full fenders and the Thule Epos rack provides a super secure frame connection that works great on bikes fitted with fenders. I was skeptical of the racks that secure the bike using ratcheting arms on the front/rear wheels with fenders.

The one addition that Thule offers is an optional lighting accessory that is a nice add on if you need it.

Overall, this is a great rack!

I'm so happy with this rack and docked it a star because of issues I had with Thule - NOT with eTrailer

I purchased this rack to hold 2 e-bikes and a third child's bike. I watched all of the videos and knew this is what I needed. Ordered and it was out of stock - of course with it being so new. I had to wait about a month to get it.

Once I received it, I took it out the box and it sat for a week before I could use it. Went to install it on to my truck and one of the wheels fell off. Upon inspection, the hole for the screw was stripped, so the screw just fell out. Used the chat feature on eTrailer and a new one was on the way in less than a day. (OUTSTANDING Customer Service)

Got the second rack, and one of the pads was missing from the third holding bar. Again - not eTrailer's fought. I contacted Thule and a they sent over a replacement part right away.

I get it. These are very popular and Thule is trying to meet that demand. I just wish they had some better "pre-flight" inspections.

Overall, this rack is dang near perfect. Bikes go on easily, they are secure and you can lock them down - no need for that extra cable that they sell.

Buy with confidence - but check you unit right away!!

Thule rack is great ,,,the box it was shipped in was badly ripped and dented in ?? I thought the small extra items packed with the rack would have fallen out it transit . All items were inside and un damaged .

by:

Initially it was a great bike rack. However after owning it a year I’ve noticed that it’s taking on way more wear and tear than it should. A lot of places are starting to show rust. It still functions the way it should, just don’t know how long it will.

by:

Great hitch rack. Sturdy and can carry my 70lbs e-bikes. I dislike the fact that it doesn't have a feature to lock in the upright position so it is always down adding 4 feet of length to my car.

by:

Super nice rack, addresses every shortcoming I’ve experienced in owning three racks before this one. We’ve gone to e-bikes exclusively, so I needed something that could handle the weight. Incredibly useful and well-designed; tool-less installation, easy loading (I bought the ramp), simple and rock-solid bike attachment, folds up compactly for storage, and the wheels are real plus. No more lifting of my 65lb e-bike, and rolling the rack on the ground to storage is great too. Easily the best rack I’ve owned, and that includes 1Up, Hollywood, and Yakima racks. Highly recommended. Ordered from etrailer on Saturday, delivered Tuesday … great experience with etrailer once again.

One cautionary note: be sure to measure the distance from the outer edge of your receiver to the center of your hitch pin hole. On my 2020 Volvo V60 CC with a retractable 1.25” receiver, the stinger rod did not reach the hitch pin hole. On my wife’s 2026 Volvo XC90 with retractable 2” receiver, it worked fine.

  • Is Thule Epos Bike Rack Compatible With Class A Motorhome
The Thule Epos # TH99XE will work with a car, truck, SUV, or van. Unfortunately, it will not work with a motorhome or trailer. For a 2-bike rack that can handle heavy bikes and is motorhome compatible I recommend the Hollywood Racks RV Rider Bike Rack # HLY64FR. This has rack a weight capacity of 80 lbs per bike and can handle standard and fat tire bikes. It uses padded clamps which can mount to the frame or the seat post allowing it to work with almost any bike. It also comes with a...

I went ahead and verified for Thule that what you need is the Thule Foldable Loading Ramp # TH43VA.

  • Hitch and Bike Rack for 2013 Mazda 3 Carrying Lectric Cargo eBike
Hello Pam; bike racks for a Class III hitch aren't going to be an option for the Mazda 3. Because of the design of the vehicle and its capabilities a Class I hitch like the Curt # C11383 is the only choice. Even if you could use an adapter, the adapter reduces the hitch capacity by 50% so it wouldn't be able to hold the weight of the bike and the bike rack. From what I found it looks like the Lectric Cargo E-bike weighs 68 lbs. The only bike rack that is rated for a Class I hitch with...

  • e-Bike Hitch Rack Recommendation for a 2013 Toyota Prius v
Hey Becky, thanks for reaching out! The 2" Curt Rack Receiver # C92NR that you purchased unfortunately isn't a fit for your 2013 Toyota Prius v (it fits a 2023 - 2024 Toyota BZ4X OR 2023 - 2024 Subaru Solterra) but if you really want that 2" hitch receiver you'll need to go with the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver # 306-X7192. This sits about 13-3/4" from ground to the top inside of the receiver so with the rise of the Yakima OnRamp Y36FR I'm confident you'll be just fine on clearance....

  • Recommended Bike Rack For A Gazelle Ebike
Hi Janice, With Gazelle ebikes having both front and rear fenders you'll have to go with a frame mount to avoid damaging the fender or rear basket. Since there currently isn't a frame mounted Kuat rack with a high enough capacity you'll need to go with Thule's Epos Bike Rack # TH99XE. This rack has wheel straps to secure the wheels at the base of the rack and rotating masts to grip the frame or rear wheel to completely secure the bikes. It doesn't come with a ramp but one can be ordered...

Hey Tom, I think you'd really like the Thule EasyFold XT part # TH903202 which is a really nice bike rack that is easy to install, load and unload, and also can fold up really small when not in use like you are wanting. It has a ramp that pulls out that makes loading and unloading bikes super easy as well.

  • Hitch And Bike Rack For Carrying Two Lectric XP4 Ebikes On A 2016 Chrysler 200
Hi Gregg! We do have a hitch available for your 2016 Chrysler 200 with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4" # C11403. As this is a Class 1 hitch, your options for a bike rack will be more limited. The Lectric XP4 bikes being as heavy as they are will limit that even more. With the battery taken out, a Lectric XP4 will weigh 62 pounds and that made one more option available. I will warn you, the two options that will work with a Class 1 hitch and bikes that weight...

  • Is It Better to Clamp Lower or Higher on Bike with Thule Epos
Hey RG, anywhere you can get a solid grab with the frame clamps of the Thule Epos part # TH99XE will work great realistically. Technically the higher the mount the better leverage it would have over the bike so that would be a slightly more secure place to use. There's also no reason you couldn't use the Thule Hitch Extender part # TH55JV with this rack and your Promaster. Tilt feature with e-bikes loaded will also work just fine too.

  • Will Curt Hitch for 2025 Mazda CX-50 Hybrid Hold More Than 200 lbs of Tongue Weight?
Hey AM! The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C33MJ has a tongue weight rating of 525 lbs so the hitch itself can handle quite a bit. When I looked up the owner's manual for your 2025 Mazda CX-50 Hybrid it looked like they have the max tongue weight rating listed to be 10% of the trailer tow rating, so I recommend checking out your copy of the manual to make sure you know what the lower limit is (the hitch, or your CX-50). • Hitch and Bike Rack for 2017 Subaru Impreza Hatchback Carrying E-Bike
Hey George! For a hitch I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11465. This is a Class I hitch with a 1-1/4" receiver and a bolt on installation. It has a max tongue weight of 200 lbs to handle your e-bike and rack, and comes with a limited lifetime warranty. Since this is a Class I you need a bike rack that is Class I compatible. Hello Tim, thanks for reaching out. The Thule Epos Bike Rack # TH99XE does have a capacity of 75 lbs per bike, BUT it is not rated for use on a camper or travel trailer, so it would not be safe to use for that application. You will need a bike rack that is specifically rated for a travel trailer, Swagman Escapee # S39SR. This is rated for RVs and travel trailers and has a capacity of 60 lbs per bike. • Why Is The Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE HLY74FR Not Recommended For Carbon Fiber Bikes?
Hello Nancy, great question. The reason the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE Bike Rack # HLY74FR is not recommended for carbon fiber bikes is because it is a frame mount rack. Carbon fiber frames are delicate, and using the frame as the anchor point for the rack could potentially damage the carbon fiber frame. A worst-case scenario would be dents or cracks in the frame, so we definitely want to avoid this possibility. We do have one other rack that I suggest you take a look at. The Thule...
