Highlights

  • Ready for Your Bikes: Rated for two bikes up to 60 lbs each - built to carry road bikes, lightweight e-bikes, and everything in between.
  • Stays Tight, Even if Your Tire Loses Air: Spring-loaded arm flexes with the tire to keep the bike secure and locked in, even when pressure dips mid-drive.
  • Wheel-Mount Design: Keeps carbon frames and custom paint protected - no hooks, clamps, or contact with the frame.
  • Compact When Stored: Folds up when not in use and tilts down so you can access the rear of your vehicle without removing the bikes.
  • Tool-Free Installation: Anti-wobble system tightens fast for a stable, secure fit - twist the knob and it locks down.
  • Integrated Locks: Secures your bikes and the rack for simple security on the go.

Features to know about

Built to Carry What You Ride

saris superclamp loaded

Your favorite bike might be heavier than the average ride. That doesn't mean your rack should make it harder. The SuperClamp supports up to 60 lbs per bike, giving you the muscle to carry mountain bikes and lighter e-bikes while maintaining a relatively compact footprint. You'll still need to lift your bike into place, but once the tires are set in the wheel block, you'll feel how steady the platform is under the weight.

Protection Where It Matters Most

saris superclamp spring loaded arm

The real magic happens when the arms come down. Instead of clamping your frame, the rack's spring-loaded hooks settle onto your tires with firm, even pressure. Plus, if your tire loses a little air overnight or mid-drive, that pressure stays consistent to keep the bike secure. And because all the contact happens at the tires, your carbon tubes, fenders, and paint stay untouched, exactly the way you left them.

Setup That Doesn't Put You on the Ground

saris superclamp knob install

Slide in the hitch pin, then twist the anti-wobble knob until it tightens down against the receiver. You'll feel it lock in - clean, solid, with no play left in the hitch. It's instant feedback that says the rack isn't going anywhere. And if you've ever crouched in the driveway with a wrench, trying to line everything up just right, this one's going to feel like a win.

Tilts and Folds Without the Struggle

saris superclamp tilted down

You've unloaded your bikes and you're backing into the garage. Or maybe you're mid-trip and need something from the trunk. In both moments, this rack adapts. It folds up when not in use, giving you more room to park in a garage or tight driveway without having to take the rack off your vehicle. And when it's loaded, it tilts down for rear access using a front-mounted lever, so you don't have to reach through handlebars or squeeze around your bikes to make it work. These are the kinds of details that don't sound like much until they save you time and frustration.

Security That Comes Built In

saris superclamp built-in locks

At some point, you're going to walk away from your setup. It could be a break for lunch in town, a pit stop for gas off the highway, or parking outside at a hotel overnight. The SuperClamp has built-in security for those moments, with the same spring-loaded hooks that hold your tires now locking the bikes in place. Plus, it has a hitch pin lock that secures the rack to your vehicle. But for extra peace of mind, you can add a cable lock (sold separately) to your setup when you are leaving your bikes alone for a while.

A Fit That Flexes With You

saris superclamp adjustable wheel block

Not every bike lines up the same, but the SuperClamp's adjustable front wheel block makes it easier to get a secure fit. You can manually move the block and bolt it down to match your wheelbase. It's a small touch that comes in handy when you're hauling a friend's bike or swapping between different setups at home.

Video Transcript for Saris SuperClamp Bike Rack for 2 Bikes Review - 2025 Toyota RAV4 - SAR84YR

Hi. Matt with etrailer. Today we're gonna talk with the Saris SuperClamp bike rack on the back of our 2025 Toyota RAV4. Now this will be a great option if you're looking for a rack that's gonna have a pretty decent capacity, will work with most bikes out there and it is gonna allow you to properly open up your hatch no matter what type of configuration it's in. So let's take a closer look at it. And before we talk about that clearance, I wanna talk about how the bike is sitting on here at the moment.

So with this mountain bike, with some wider handlebars, we're on some bumpy roads, we still got plenty of room. We're not gonna be making contact with anything, and that's gonna be in a pretty extreme case right there. Now we can open up our hatch. What we have to do is come to the back of it, pull on this handle until the back center. Now we'll say the tilt on this is not very extreme, but with the RAV4 or the way this hatch is on here, it's gonna be a little bit higher up.

It's not that long of a hatch either. So a couple points you should watch out for is, your pedal, depending on how it's oriented, it may come pretty close, but I'd more so watch out for this handlebar at the top. So right now that would make contact, but you can just pull on that just slightly. Now it's outta the way and I pull that back down, it's gonna come pretty close. So you might just have to pull on it each time you go to move this.

Now when I come in here, I'll have the opportunity to tie my shoe, get ready for my bike ride, grab my gear, be good to go, or I could just simply throw my groceries back here. But again, watch out if you have a mountain bike with some wider handlebars. If you have a road bike, you're probably gonna be fine though. And we can put this back into place and I can talk about taking it off and how that process is gonna go. So back here we're gonna have the strap, gonna fit to your rear tire.

This is gonna take any time to release. Same thing is gonna be with this front latch. So with this hook it does lock, squeeze in the handle, you notice it retracts back down. What's nice about this is it stops up here so you can't really get it in the wrong spot and it's really quick to put up. And now, I can take it out for a ride. Now with that rear strap, that does have the ability to go up and down on that tray, so that's nice that it can accommodate a wider range of wheel bases. And really the setup and tear down for this doesn't take any time and I'm already done. Compared to most bike racks out there, I would take probably maybe a minute or two longer. So let's get a couple measurements now to see how it's fitting back here. The first one I'm gonna get is gonna be the ground clearance, and we're gonna be sitting at about 18 inches right now. So if you throw on some heavy bikes, that's gonna sag down a little bit, especially since this is gonna be rated for your heavy E-bikes. So definitely keep that in mind. So if you're going up any steep inclines, like a hill or a driveway, watch out for it. Now we can save space. Won't be a lot, but there'll be some. But before I do that, I'm gonna get a total distance of how far sitting out, and that's gonna be 25 inches, which is pretty compact for a two by rack. So now push it up, I'll get that measurement. And now it's sitting at about 17 1/2 inches. Still enough to make a difference. But what's nice about this configuration is, if you are in those tight spots like a parking spot or garage, it will give you a little more leeway and it will let you open up your hatch with no issue. Most bike racks are gonna make contact with your hatch if you try to do this, but it's also not gonna block anything like your backup camera, your tail lights, a license plate or your back window. Now the way this is going to install is, we're gonna have a inch and a quarter shank that goes into your two inch hitch receiver. And the way that's possible is, we have a two inch sleeve adapter. So this will work with two inch receivers or inch and a quarter receivers. So it's pretty versatile. And we're gonna have a pin that goes through, it connects to a lock core on the other side so you have that extra security. And you'll notice it's pretty sturdy in here. The reason being is, we have an anti-rattle knob hit bottom, keeping this in place solid so it's not rattling in your receiver. So overall, I think this is gonna be a solid option for most people out there who want something that is gonna be versatile, that can carry these heavy E-bikes and it will just save space on the back of your Rav4. All right now, if you're looking for something very similar to this, I'd recommend the Saris SuperClamp EX. Very similar to this, it's just gonna be more compact, more light weight. But my opinion, it doesn't look as nice. So it really just depends on what kind of look you're going for. Now, if you guys have any other questions, let us know here at etrailer. And again, I'm Matt, and thanks for watching.

  • How Wide are the Wheel Trays on the Saris SuperClamp Bike Rack?
Hey Cheryl, congrats on the new car. The wheel trays are a bit different on the Saris SuperClamp Bike Rack for 2 Bikes item # SAR84YR. If you have a 29" tire they're 3" wide but if you have a 27-1/2" or smaller tire they're 4-1/2" wide. This bike rack accommodates bikes weighing up to 60 lbs a piece and wheelbases that are 28" to 52" wide. The Saris SuperClamp item # SAR84YR will not stick out past the sides of your CX-5 when folded up. I have attached a picture below of this bike rack...
