5th Wheel Hitch With 19k Capacity for 2022 Chevy Silverado 3500

Updated 07/20/2025 | Published 07/15/2025

Question:

I have an 18000 lb Bandw hitch installed in my 2022 Chevy 3500 single axle, standard bed. It is mounted on above rails. Would like to trade in my 5th wheel for a new one which has a 19000 lbs GVWR. What is my best option?

Hi John; are you looking for a fixed 5th wheel hitch or a slider? If you need a fixed hitch the best option is the B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # BW52AR. This is a rail mounted version of the Companion that was previously exclusive to the puck system or Turnoverball. The hitch is rated for 20,000 lbs which is the next step up over an 18k. If you need a slider I recommend the PullRite SuperGlide # PUL63RR which is also rated for 20,000 lbs.

What kind of 5th wheel do you have?

Thanks for getting back with me. I currently have a Grand Design Reflection that I am trading in on a Solitude 370dv. The GVWR of this trailer is 19000 lbs. I’m leaning toward the BW 52AR. I have a 2022 Silverado 3500 single axle. Think the bed is 6’8”. I never got in a situation where I needed a slider. Guess it could happen.

@KevinG if you haven't needed one and you're sticking with Grand Design I highly doubt you will need one on the new trailer with the same truck. The important thing is to know your limitations so you don't have a really bad day if you don't have the clearance on a sharp turn. If you like what I'm assuming is a B&W Patriot you're going to be happy with the Companion as well.
