Can Benton Single Bike Rack B54VR Be Installed In Hitch Without Wrenching A Nut Every Time?

Updated 08/07/2025 | Published 07/10/2025

Question:

I just assembled the Benton little-shift single bike rack that I rcvd yesterday. Im rather distressed that Ill need to get down on my knees with a wrench to secure the anti-rattle pin each time I mount the rack my garage is too shallow to permit me to leave the rack on the car. Is there any alternative that would allow me to easily secure the pin tool-free eg. with a hand-turned knob. The Benton manual refers to an optional hitch lock. Would that accomplish what Im seeking or is it only a lock? Do you carry that?

Hello Neil, thanks for reaching out, and for your recent order. There is a locking hitch pin, part # e43JR that will work with the Benton LittleShift Bike Rack # B54VR. This would not help accomplish what you are wanting to do though. The lock also uses a nut that must be tightened by hand each time you install or remove the rack. There is no way around this I-m afraid. It is a very solid single bike rack, but you will have to wrench the nut each time.

Hey Neil, how's it going? I see you're dealing with the Benton LittleShift Bike Rack and the hassle of securing the anti-rattle pin. Since the locking hitch pin also requires hand-tightening, have you found a way to make this process easier for you? I'm curious because it might help others facing the same challenge.
