Is there a Over the Cab Ladder Rack that Will Work with Bed Topper on My 1993 Chevy Pickup?

Updated 09/02/2025 | Published 06/19/2025

Question:

Good morning. I have been looking for a cantilevered overcab bed-mounted ladder rack that is compatible with a truck topper/camper cap. I have a 1993 Chevy K1500 silverado with a cab-high topper, and have seen some ladder racks/bed racks that have pylons extend from the side of the truck mounted on a plate, rather thann directly up from the bed side. I am wondering if you sell any of these types? Thanks

Hello Chris,

I don’t know of any ladder racks that will work while you have a cab-high topper installed on the bed, unfortunately.

What we can offer to get crossbars on your truck topper/camper is the Rhino-Rack Aero Bar Roof Rack for Camper Shells - Track Mount - Black - 59" Bars # Y02-490B. This setup involves mounting tracks directly onto your topper, and then installing crossbars across them.

We don’t have a custom-fit rack for the cab itself, but we do carry the SeaSucker Monkey Bars Roof Rack - Round Bars - Vacuum Cup Mount - 48" Long # 298-SX6000B. This mounts using powerful vacuum cups and can be placed on your cab roof without permanent installation.

While this wouldn’t be a traditional over-the-cab ladder rack like you're looking for, it would give you bars on both the cab and the topper, which could allow you to carry longer gear front to back.

What are you planning to carry with the ladder rack, an actual ladder, or something else like a canoe, kayak, or lumber?

Hey Chris, Did you find a solution for carrying your gear with the ladder rack setup? I'm curious to know if the options I suggested worked for you, as it could help me assist others in similar situations.
