Replacement Axle for a 84-1/2" Hub Face

Updated 06/27/2025 | Published 06/11/2025

Question:

Greeting! I am hoping to locate replacement axles with electric brakes for my 1992 Fleetwood Terry Resort 19E. The axle tag is difficult to read but I believe it says Hayes Axle model 2800. The brake mounting flange is 3 hole. The spring center width is 66”, axle tube diameter is 2-3/8”, hub is 5 on 4-1/2 with 205/75D15 C tires. I estimate the hub face distance to be 84-1/2, though I could be off slightly because hubs are currently off. Thanks in advance for your time and attention!

Hey Dave, thanks for the information. The closest axle I have to yours is the Trailer Axle Beam with Easy Grease Spindles item # e45GR. It has a slightly longer hub face at 86-1/2". The spring-center-to-spring-center length is 71-1/2" but these can easily be moved using a couple of the Spring Seat for Round Trailer Axles with 3" Diameter item # TRSS300.

I do not have a set of hubs that fit the Trailer Axle Beam item # e45GR that have a 5 on 4-1/2 lug pattern. This axle uses item # 25580 inner bearings and item # 15123 outer bearings. Additionally, this axle has a more common 5 bolt brake mounting flange.

Did you break or damage an axle or are you just wanting to upgrade? You can add this information and any other questions you have where it says Reply to Jerred H and I'll be happy to answer them.

Hi Jerred, thanks so much for your informative reply. I'm not looking to upgrade axle capacity, the rig is less than 4000#. But I recently bought this trailer and in going through it realized it needed brake shoes and probably drums. I have been unable to locate either and after 32 years in use even the axle tags are unreadable. So at this point I'm thinking maybe it makes more sense from a time, money and safety perspective to just replace the running gear with something more recent. One thing I did not mention before is the distance between the fenders is 92" - could that allow me to use a longer axle like the e43SR (assuming I had a shop modify the spring seat position)?

@DaveM Yes, you definitely could and your reasoning for swapping out the entire axle and components makes complete sense. I recommend checking with the shop you'll have do the work first. The Trailer Axle w/ Electric Brakes - Easy Grease - 5 on 4-1/2 Bolt Pattern item # e43SR is going to stick out an extra 2-1/4" if you original measurement is correct. You'll need two of the Spring Seat for Typical 3,500-lb Trailer Axles - Plain Steel item # CES88WR.
