Question:
Hi I have a 2019 Powerlite toy hauler 29FBXL, wanting to upgrade leaf springs. It has 5100lbs axles, which seems lite duty for its GVW 10,600lbs. My plan was new springs, hardware, and Sumo springs. I believe the stock spring are to lite. I will measure springs tonight. What would be your recommendations? Thank you

Hello Jose,
Looking to upgrade the suspension on your 2019 Powerlite Toy Hauler 29FBXL? That’s always a great idea.
With your tandem axle setup, it’s important to match the weight rating of the leaf springs to that of your axles. Going with a spring that’s rated significantly higher than your axle capacity can result in a stiff ride and may even cause damage to your suspension over time.
You’ll need to double-check your eye-to-eye measurement on the leaf springs with the trailer unloaded, as I don’t have a database that specifies what components are installed on which trailers. Most likely, you’ll need the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 5,200-lb Trailer Axles # DX45CR, which measures 25 1/4" eye to eye. It’s normal for your current springs to measure slightly longer, up to 26 1/4", as they do stretch over time.
For upgraded shackles, I recommend the MORryde Suspension Upgrade Kit for Tandem Axle Trailers - 2-1/4" Long Shackle Straps # MR46ZR. Based on my research, this should be the right fit, but please confirm your current shackles are 2 1/4" from center eye to center eye.
If you're also upgrading your equalizers, take a look at the Dexter E-Z Flex Suspension Kit - Double-Eye Springs - Tandem Axle - 6,000 lbs # K71-652-00. Your current equalizers should measure around 5 3/4". If yours are significantly different, let me know the measurement and I’ll help find a better match. I’ve also attached an image with the dimensions for reference.
For an even smoother ride, consider two sets of the SumoSprings Trailer Helper Springs w/ Line Relocation Bracket - Single Axle - 5K to 8K - Underslung # SS33HR, one for each axle. This is where you’ll really feel the improvement. Most people are amazed at the difference these make once installed.
As I mentioned earlier, I don’t have trailer-specific data, so please double-check your measurements before ordering. If anything doesn’t line up, just let me know what you find, and I’ll be happy to help find better options. If you have any questions about the products, feel free to reach out.
I’ve also attached some review videos for you to check out.
Getting the suspension ready for a big trip? If so, where are you headed?
