Updated 10/27/2025 | Published 05/06/2025

Question:

Can I back up with the Andersen WDH attached? Or will that cause issues with the chains etc. thanks! 2018 Forest River GVWR of about 11-12,000 lbs fully loaded.

Good afternoon Drake!
Yes you are in luck, because the Andersen Weight Distribution Hitches, like a lot of modern ones, do allow you to reverse while hooked up to your trailer. The reason this can, and some can't, comes down to if it uses certain types of friction bars. This uses chains and a friction ball head design, so you are all good, whereas something like the Curt Round Bar WDH # C17063 doesn't allow backing up due to the friction bars.

For a really nice Andersen setup, I'd go with Andersen Weight Distribution Hitch w Sway Control # AN53VR. It has more than enough capacity for your Forest River since it is rated up to 14,000lbs and 1,400lbs of tongue weight. I personally installed and used this system awhile back here at etrailer, and it was super easy to install and use. I like that it is lightweight and not very bulky.

I have a 2016 Ford F250 Crew cab 4 wheel drive diesel and I am towing a 2017 Outdoors Rv Mountain Series Timber Ridge 24RKS what Anderson hitch would be correct for this trailer?

@MichaelL Hey there Michael. The Andersen WDH would definitely work well for your truck and camper setup. I checked the GVWR of your camper and it's just under 10K which is well under the limit of the Andersen setup # AN53VR.
