Question:
I just bought a 2024 F350 truck upgrading from a 2019 F150. I had installed SumoSprings for the Rear and was happy with them. We are full time RVs traveling 200-750 miles per week. We are currently towing a 7K bumper pull but will likely be upgrading to a 14K 5th wheel in the fall. I like the simplicity of the SumoSprings versus airbags. I also would like to install them myself. What would you recommend? Thanks in advance.

Hey Michel! I also really like SumoSprings since they're easy to install, don't require maintenance, and don't ruin unloaded ride quality like some other options do. You can go with the traditional style like # SSR-127-54 as long as you don't have a 3" block between the leaf pack and top overload spring. However, with a 2,800 lb capacity I'm afraid you might be overloading them once you switch to a 5th wheel with a heavy pin weight.
A better solution would be to switch to the SumoSprings Rebel Custom Helper Springs with the higher capacity. The # SSR-128-40-2 doesn't offer much more at 3,000 lbs so I would get the # SSR-128-47-2 with a capacity of 5,000 lbs. These are basically the same as your typical air bags without the air.
The installation takes a little more work but is still easy enough to do yourself. The same 3" block restriction applies here, and these are designed for vehicles with 4WD. You also need to make sure there is a bump stop perch over the axle. If the bump stop perch is missing you need the # SSR-129-47-2 instead which also fits 2WD models. What kind of 5th wheel are you planning on getting?
