Will SumoSprings Kit Help 2024 Ford F-350 that is Towing Fifth Wheel Camper

Question:

Hello We have a 2024 Ford F350 and towing a fifth wheel GVWR 14,500 with a Gooseneck Gen Y Hitch. Attached are photos of the leaf springs before and after hitching. Would the SSR 128 47 2 SumoSprings be compatible with our truck and what improvement in squat could we expect?

Hey Peter, thanks for the pictures of your leaf springs loaded and unloaded. I don't think we've ever had anyone send us pictures for that before so that is interesting to see. That's quite a bit of sag and it looks like your overload springs are just about to start to get engaged. With that said, yes, the Sumosprings kit part # SSR-128-47-2 does fit your truck and is going to do a great job getting rid of that sag without making the ride quality to harsh so this would be a great idea for you to go with.

Hi Jameson, Thank you for the suggestion. Could you elaborate on the comment that "the overload springs are just about ready to engage"? What is the primary function of the top overload spring? Although there is an initial sag when the trailer is attached, when observed from the side, the truck looks level. However, we would still consider the SumoSprings as added insurance.

@PeterH The overload springs are the smaller springs on top of the main leaves of the spring pack that the frame bracket is about to start pressing on. I didn't mean to confuse you by mentioning that but I just thought it was interesting to see. Basically when they are engaged the suspension does get firmer.

@JamesonC My understanding of how leaf springs work on Ford F350 is that the upper overload springs initially engage under the load of the trailer (about 2 inches sag) and then the remaining spring pack would progressively engage under increasing load. Can I safely assume that the system is not overloaded at this stage and adding SumoSprings would just reduce that initial sag?
