Comparing Suspension Upgrades For Heavy Towing With 2024 Ford SuperDuty

Updated 03/11/2026 | Published 03/06/2026

Question:

I have. 2024 Superduty gas. I want to put in sumo spring bump stop. I am torn between the SSR-127-54 and the SSR -127-47. We haul a goose neck 2+1 horse trailer I believe pin weight to be up to 1500 pounds. I still need to confirm. I also have a c a per trailer which I guess would have 500 to 700 pounds bumper pull. If I go with the 127-47 which is the maximum pin weight should have for them to be effective. I really don’t want to be bouncing with light weight such as hauling my atv trailer around or having it in the back

Hey Trevor, nice truck and trailer!

For your 2024 Ford SuperDuty truck, you can definitely go with either option:
- SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs - Rear Axle # SSR-127-47 (1,500lb capacity)
- SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs - Rear Axle # SSR-127-54 (2,800lb capacity)

That said, I would recommend the second option which is the heavier duty one - # SSR-127-54. Since you said your pin weight can get up to 1,500lbs, that is enough weight to want a heavy duty setup to reduce the squat. This won't be engaged when you're not towing, so you'll still retain that factory ride height. I have these same SumoSprings on my truck and I'm very happy with them. I had some harsher heavy duty timbrens on my old truck and you could feel it bang the frame every time you hit a bump since they are for full time towing.

You could probably get by with the lighter duty option too, but I think the heavier duty 2,800lb will give you the safest towing setup while still retaining a comfortable ride when unloaded. Is your Super Duty all stock or do you have other upgrades for towing/traveling?

Hello. Thanks it is all stock and I will be honest I went with the 47. As I als hail camper trailer with light tongue weight so will be a mix of both. I suspect my gooseneck would be 1500 at max. Not all the time. When I hook it up now my overload springs are not even engaged yet so I think I will take the chance. Thank you

@TrevorR Oh okay that makes sense since you'll be hauling a bit more. You can't go wrong with either one haha. Let me know how you like them; they were night and day difference for my towing.

I used the blue ones they seem to be working fine for me I was pulling a 34 ft Grand design imagine 2970 which well over a thousand pounds tongue weight now I'm pulling a 2500 RL which has about 400 lb less weight but you're still right at a thousand pounds almost with tongue weight they all seem to pull good it helped with a lot of the porposine issues that I was having it also helped with the sway that you felt in the rear end of the truck but I use the blue ones the mid-range one so that way I had arranged to work with

@Joe Nice! I think the blue ones are actually what I have on my 2017 Nissan Titan when pulling my car hauler. No complaints with it :).
