What is the Inside Diameter of the Yakima Cradle # Y8890153? Do You have a Cradle 1 1/8" Diameter?

Updated 05/12/2025 | Published 04/25/2025

Question:

what is the inside diameter of Part Number: Y8890153 for yakima king joe, mighty joe, or hangout bicycle carriers, ie will they fit an old rhode gear pro hitch mount with 1 1/8 inch diameter bars that hold the bicycle? Do you have other rubber holders for bike carriers that fit 1 1/8 in bars? Thanks for any information

Hello Tom,

I am sorry but I do think that the Replacement Cradle Assembly for Yakima HangOut, KingJoe, or MightyJoe Trunk Bike Rack - Qty 1 # Y8890153 is going to work, it has an inside diameter of exactly 1".

The Replacement SuperCush Cradle and ZipStrip for Yakima Hanging-Style Bike Racks # 8880597 has a diameter of 1 5/16" so you might be able to make that work.

Do you think you can make that one work?

Thanks for the information. I was looking at the Super Cush cradle already and will check it out again.

@TomA if you come across anything else that you do not see a measurement listed, let me know and I will get that to you.

@KateF I did order the replacements for the Rhode Gear Pro that you list, but am still considering the super cush for yakima since one of our bicycles is carbon fiber and the standard cradles are pretty firm rubber. A suggestion for those like me looking to try a different brand of cradle on a bike carrier: how about including the inside diameter (when using a round bar) of the cradle with the information for the various brands of cradles? Might save a bunch of questions coming to your team. Another helpful tidbit of info would be how much a round bar can be built up, with duct tape for example, to use a cradle with a slightly larger inside diameter than the bars in question. Thanks for all your help.

@TomA We don’t typically provide measurements in that way because the parts are highly brand-specific. Using a cradle or component from a different rack or brand can void your warranty. Additionally, since these parts haven’t been tested together by the manufacturers, any malfunction (such as a bike falling and causing an accident) would not be covered under liability. Regarding the duct tape scenario, it falls under the same issue. We can’t provide guidance on modifications like that due to liability concerns. If it were up to me, we would have every measurement on the pages. I don't make the rules, I just follow them. If there are any other measurement that you need, please feel free to reach out to me.
