Best 5th Wheel Hitch/Pin Box Combination for 2025 Ram 3500 Mega Cab With OEM Prep Package

Updated 09/26/2025 | Published 04/21/2025

Question:

I have a 2025 Ram 3500 Mega cab with OEM Puck system. What is the best recommended hitch/pinbox combo to decrease the chance of hitting bedrails and cab? Gooseneck sounds preferable, but I dont know the downsides? Currently looking at 2010 Raptor Toyhauler 3812 cant read the sticker on the pinbox. Thanks

Hey Jory! Since you have the short bed on your 2025 Ram 3500 Mega Cab clearance is definitely an issue. If you want to use a gooseneck setup that is possible but you will have to use an offset ball like the # GY83XR with # C60617 for additional clearance. This has a 5" offset which still might not be enough for a 90 degree turn.

For a replacement pin box we will have to identify the current pin box. If you can't read the sticker the only way to identify it is to measure the bolt pattern which is outlined in the article I attached further down on this page. For example, if you have a Lippert 1621, 1716, 0719, Rhino, and Fabex PB 600 series pin box you can use the Reese Goose Box # RP85FR. If you have something else please let me know in the comments below.

Gooseneck setups are becoming more and more common and a lot of people like them. However, it is difficult to say which is better since there are pros/cons for different setups. In general you're going to get a better ride using a nice 5th wheel hitch. If you decide to go this route I do recommend using the B&W Companion. You can go with a slider # BWRVK3670 or you can switch to a rotating pin box and use the fixed # BWRVK3600.

Hey Jory, did you have a chance to measure the bolt pattern on your pin box to identify it? I'm curious to know if you found a setup that works for your Ram and Raptor, as it could help others facing similar clearance issues.
