Question:
I was going to purchase the Reese 32X48 cargo carrier to transport something weighing 250 pounds. I was working with Fred, who said I couldnt do so with my Prius, but a RAV4 hybrid would work with the Ecohitch. I was in the process of buying the RAV when I found out it has a 150 pound tongue weight. So I guess thats out, right? Where do I go from here? Even the HIghlander hybrid just has a tongue weight of 350. Im lost. Can you help?

Hi Lisa, what do you plan on carrying? The 350 lbs for the Highlander is pretty standard for a Class III hitch and also the tongue weight capacity of many SUV's. You could make this work with a lighter carrier like the # EM34JV. This is 30-1/4" Wide x 50" Long so fairly comparable to the Reese. It only weighs 62 lbs so you won't go over the tongue weight capacity adding another 250 lbs on top of it. Outside of that, you're looking at a larger SUV or potentially a truck to get a higher tongue weight capacity.

Hi Lisa, did you have a chance to try the lighter Erickson carrier with your Highlander? I'm curious to know if it worked out for you, as it might help others in a similar situation.
