Updated 10/28/2025 | Published 03/17/2025

Question:

SumoSprings Rebel Contact Plate for Offset Trailer Frames SS89EV I tried the sumo spring but the didn’t sit fully under my frame rail. I assume this is what I need to use How much space do you need between the leaf spring and frame. I only have about 4 inches. I have done pictures of what happened to the springs if you need to see them. This forum won’t let me attach them. Thanks

Hey Jay, thanks for reaching out!

The SumoSprings Rebel Contact Plate for Offset Trailer Frames # SS89EV is definitely what you need if your SumoSprings kit isn't quite lined up with your trailer frame.

When I read Step 3 of the instructions for the SumoSprings Trailer Helper Springs # SS26MV, it says you need to use the included spacers so your springs and spacers are 1/4" - 1/2" taller than the gap between your frame and the top of your leaf spring. If you're saying you have a 4" gap AFTER installing the SumoSprings then we definitely need to get that figured out.

Were you saying the 4" is after or before the SumoSprings were installed?

Hey Jay, what ended up happening with the SumoSprings after checking that 4-inch gap between the frame and leaf spring? Your update could make it easier for others trying to line up their springs the same way.

@JonG I had to remove them. Not enough clearance to use properly. Also they were not centered under the frame rail which lead to sumo springs trying to push out of one side. Since there are not returns. I’m considering cutting them down to see if that will work. Since I’m stuck with $600 worth of product I can’t use. Thanks

@JayW Did you end up using the contact plate and still ran into issues?
