Can I Upgrade My Ranger Boat Trailer To P245/45ZR18 Tires?

Updated 10/27/2025 | Published 03/13/2025

Question:

I have a Ranger boat trailer that has the fiberglass fenders on it. It has the 215/75R14 on it currently. Wondering if these would fit my trailer so they would not rub the inside of the fender? Also do they only come in 1 style of offset rim and if they do, what is the offset of the rim?

Hello Dan, thanks for reaching out, and nice boat!

If you want to upgrade your tires, the Kenda P245/45ZR18 Radial Tire with 18" Aluminum Wheel # KE25KV may work for you. The main thing to consider here is your clearance on the inside of the tire.

Your current 215/75R14 tires are going to be about 26.8" in diameter and 8.5" wide. The P245/45ZR18 tires are about the same diameter, the they are 9.6" wide. Also keep in mind this wheel has a +10mm offset, which means the tire will be 1cm closer to the frame. So with that and the wider tire, you will be losing about 0.9" of clearance give to take a few hundredths.

Our rule of thumb is you want at least 1" between the inside of the tire and the frame of the trailer. If you can go measure the clearance with the current tire setup, we can easily find out if the # KE25KV tires will work for you.

Leave a reply below with any other comments or questions and I will get back to you.

Hey Dan, were you able to measure the clearance on your Ranger trailer with the current tires? Once you had that number, did the Kenda tire and wheel combo end up fitting without rubbing? Your results could really help others looking at the same upgrade.
