Does Progressive Dynamics 2000 Watt Inverter w/ Transfer Switch Get Wired Directly to Battery Bank?

Updated 10/27/2025 | Published 03/08/2025

Question:

Hello. I have been watching videos about installing an inverter in my RV via the inverter prep. They are talking about installing an auto transfer switch between the inverter prep wires and the inverter. But if I purchase the Progressive Dynamics inverter with auto transfer switch, can I cut out that step of installing a transfer switch? Does this internal transfer switch in the inverter take the place of a needed external transfer switch? If I am understanding correctly I am wiring directly to the inverter from the RV and then to the batteries or shunt and then batteries?

Hey Mike, thanks for reaching out!

Yes, the Progressive Dynamics 2000 Watt Inverter w/ Transfer Switch # PD64FR will get wired directly to your battery bank and to your power distribution center.

If you check out the attached clips from the instructions, you'll see what I'm talking about.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hey Mike, how did things go wiring the Progressive Dynamics inverter with the built-in transfer switch in your RV? Did it simplify your setup the way you expected? Your update could make it easier for others working on similar inverter installs.
