Will Adding Heavy Duty Springs Lift My Trailer?

Updated 10/27/2025 | Published 03/01/2025

Question:

I have a travel trailer with tandem 3500 lb axels. Very little clearance above tires to camper floor. They are close to maxed out with weight. Would changing to 5k springs get me any more lift?

No, that wouldn't help your clearance issues Kenneth. I do have a solution for you depending on what kind of axles your travel trailer has that will give you additional clearance. There are a couple of options to lift your trailer depending on if your axle's sit above or below the leaf springs.

If your axles are already below your leaf springs the only option is the Correct Track Trailer Alignment and Lift Kit item # RR23QX. This kit mounts to your spring hangers and moves the attachment point down 1-1/4" or 2-1/4".

If your springs are below your axles you will want to use one of our axle flip kits. These work by moving your axle below your springs and give you a lift equivalent to your axles thickness. Since you have 3,500 lbs axles they're most likely 2-3/8" in diameter. This means you'll need the Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit item # K71-384-00. These are sold individually, you'll need two sets.

Please note that if your travel trailer has torsion axles you'll need to use a specific set of lifting blocks. I would need to see the tag off of one of your axles to recommend the correct one.

What kind of travel trailer do you have?

Hey Kenneth, what ended up working to give your travel trailer a bit more clearance? Knowing whether the lift kit or axle flip option solved it could really help others in the same situation.
