Video Transcript for Tow Ready Wiring 18136 Review

Today were going to review part #: 18136. This is the Tow Ready long no-drill mount bracket. This bracket is designed to secure your electrical connector on the back of your vehicle by your trailer hitch instead of having your electrical connector just dangling. What you want to do is you can use this bracket here to mount the connector to the hitch of your vehicle. Thisll provide a sturdy place to attach the connector. Basically, the way this would attach to your hitch, I have an example of a square trailer hitch here and it is designed to be used on a square trailer hitch.

It does have the 90 degree angle you can see on it. Basically what you would do, it does have some mounting holes here, you would just set this on top, put the edge up against the end of the square part, and then you would just take your host clamp right here, run it through the hole and then run it back through and then tighten that screw down and as you tighten that hose clamp down itll hold this long bracket to your square trailer hitch and then youll be ready to mount your mounting bracket to hold your electrical connector. Now, it depends on the mounting. This can be used with many different mounting brackets. We do list them on the product pages or related product.

Depending on what bracket you use, if you have a four way, a five way, a six way or a seven way. I got an example here. I just pulled a bracket that would hold a seven way connector. As you can see at the top it has the two mounting holes. What that would do is you would just mount that.

Remember the holes that we're on the end of this bracket. You would just mount that right to here. As you can see, you would have a place to mount your seven way connector and hold it securely on the rear of your vehicle. These brackets will be sold separately. You can also mount this underneath the hitch if you prefer.

The same way, you just run that through there, run it through there and tighten it down. You can put it on the bottom or on the top, whichever you prefer. Most times its probably used right up here. I just want to give you a few dimensions on this bracket. This is the long version. It would be six and a half inches long and three inches wide. We do sell also a short version of this bracket which is the part #: 18146 and it would be same three inches wide, but its only about three and three quarters long. So depending if you need this one which is the long or we also sell a short version of it. That should do it for the review on part #: 18136, the Tow Ready long no-drill mount bracket. .

The bracket was great, and it fit the wiring harness and bracket combo that I purchased from etrailer (http://www.etrailer.com/Custom-Fit-Vehicle-Wiring/Toyota/Sequoia/2003/20137.html?vehicleid=2003203609). I'm only giving a "good" rating because the hose clamp included in the kit wouldn't hold tight. I ended up using some plastic tie wraps I had as a temporary measure until I can go to the store and purchase something that will work better. As always the service, communication and delivery from etrailer.com was flawless. 122476

Purchased this to support the receptacle in the 7-way ETBC7 kit for a 2010 Honda Odyssey. I was initially skeptical that it would grab securely onto a round hitch pipe (Hidden Hitch) but it does. In the picture, readers can see that I intentionally installed this 18136 bracket "upside down". There are two reasons: (1) Aftermarket hitch receivers ride fairly low on Odysseys and occasionally mine will scrape the road if there is a steep grade change. Not a big deal, but I did not want the ETBC7 receptacle to scrape the ground and be damaged. This way, the 18136 bracket might scrape, but the receptacle will be protected. (2) Mounting upside down also raises the ETBC7 about an inch, so that it is not hanging lower than the hitch receiver. I also mounted the ETBC7's bracket "backwards". This sets the receptacle a tad inside the profile of the bumper, so that if a shopping cart or something hits the bumper it will be less likely to impact the receptacle. Very pleased with this part, it's sturdier than it looks and gives the ETBC7 a solid platform when you can't or don't want to mount directly into the bumper of your vehicle. 348565

I haven't used the long one yet but I have used several short ones. They are rigid and the hose clamp works great as long as you line the connector up on the flat side of the receiver before you tighten it. You still have to buy the flat 4 or 5 pin or the round 5 or 7 pin socket mounting bracket to add onto the mount. I have bought tons of stuff from etrailer and I have yet to make a return, everything has been quality and has worked perfectly. Reasonable delivery times and I would highly recommend ordering from them. I just ordered hitches and trailer wiring for my kids cars. Came as expected and mounted them two weeks ago but I did not take any pictures. Sorry. Next time they are home from college I will get and post pics. Neil 559245

The product purchased itself was of quality yet I was not pleased because the setup was for a 2012 Honda Pilot and the connector behind the bumper did not allow for and easy and seamless installation. I had to jury rig it so that I would have a connection to my trailer. If I had to do over, I would have paid extra and went to the HONDA dealer and purchased it there. 355346

I installed on my 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee within 5 minutes.I've searched many websites, and this one offers the best price, with cheap shipping and handling. I received the product in perfect condition, in what seems like 3 days after placing the order. The mounting bracket is very sturdy, and doesn't seem like it will bend or break, unless you purposely try to. I will highly recommend this to anyone. 348767

I bought the long bracket since I planned on adding a couple of bends to it. The bracket is something like 12 ga. steel so I had a metal shop make the bends. The picture shows how it mounted on the 2-1/2 in. square tube crossmember. I was very pleased with the result. Just make sure you have adequate clearance for the square tube when you make the bends if you mount it this way. Otherwise you'll have to throw it away and start over. 178288

Did not work on the round tube reciever hitch that was on this truck 25609

It worked well on my round tube hitch. I used two stainless steel clamps instead of the one that was included. If I try to push down on it, the bracket would bend before it rotated on the hitch tube.

Though they do not sit as easily on round tube as square tube, they are still very usable if mounted properly. Thanks for the input and the solution you used.

The universal mounting bracket installed without a problem. My rounded hitch posed a slight problem for this model, though. I ended up placing a zip-tie to the backside of the bumper to try to keep it from falling down. Otherwise, it is still working great one year in even with deeper-than-average snow last winter. 403238

Great idea, Adam! As Plato said, necessity is the mother of invention, and you definitely problem-solved on this one! Since your pictures show a 4-way and 7-way connector, you could also use the Curt Easy Mount Bracket for 2-inch hitches Item C58000. This slips over your Curt 2-inch receiver and does not require drilling, either. Thanks again for sharing!

I was able to make it work, but it is not a direct fit. I had to drill holes to mount. However, if you watch the video provided on the website, it does show that for my SUV, you had to modify the mount to work. The mount is made of heavy construction and not cheap. 720931

Easy to install (with a little help lifting from my son). This is my second Titan, and I was concerned about the ride quality (road vibration). In addition to being a quality hitch, it also supports the rear frame. Noticeable improvement in ride quality. Very pleased with this purchase. 716358

I purchased a "new" to me 2015 Porsche Cayenne. It was not equipped with the towing package, so........off to etrailer I go! These guys are the go-to experts in this stuff. They hooked me up with the wiring kit to have my car, talk to my trailer. The kit comes with plenty of wire, and zip ties to make a clean installation. I had some help installing the kit, but that was more due to my not wanting to screw it up. The instructions and information provided was first rate! Thanks. 715396

The bracket works as expected. Great length for the application on my 2010 Subaru Outback. However, I didn't so much like the clamp that came with It. There was not enough of the clamp slotted to fit on the box frame of my hidden hitch, so I had to put a shim in to make it fit. 699464

I gave this mounting bracket two stars for the following reasons. While it was quite easy to install, it was installed on a round tube type receiver. No matter how tight you tighten the clamp any slight pressure will cause the bracket to rotate. It would probably work great if the receiver was a square tube type. 608239

To install a fully functional 7-Way connector, and ultimately a brake controller, on your Express Van you will need 4-Way wiring that carries the basic trailer light functions and the Universal Wiring Kit # ETBC7. Draw-Tite hitch # 76225 is an excellent choice for a clean installed appearance on your 2018 Dodge Journey. As for the 4-pole connector mount you have two ways to go. Some towers prefer to keep the 4-pole wiring tucked inside the vehicle except when they are actually pulling their trailer.
