Video Transcript for Tow Ready No-Drill Mount Bracket Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at, and showing you how to install, the tow-ready no-drill long bracket, part number 18136. So here's what our long bracket looks like fully installed, and it's going to allow us to mount our electrical connector onto our hitch. That way it doesn't have to be hanging down, and we can have it nice and secure while we're driving down the road. Now, this is going to be a great solution to mount any kind of electrical connector securely to your hitch. What's really nice about this bracket is it is a no-drill application, so we don't have to drill into our hitch or our vehicle at all to get our wiring mounted. Now, our bracket is made of a steel construction and it has a black finish, so it's going to blend in nicely with your hitch and it's going to look good on any car. So here's everything our long bracket's going to come with.

It's going to come with the bracket itself. Now, this is going to be three inches wide by 6 1/2 inches long. It's also going to come with a hose clamp. Now, the hose clamp is going to be 13 inches long. It's also going to come with all the necessary mounting hardware to put your bracket in place.

Now, if this bracket's too long, we do have a short version available, and it's going to have all the same features of our long bracket but it's only going to be 3 3/4 inches long by three inches wide. You can pick one up using part number 18140. Now, the reason why this bracket is going to be so handy is, if we have a seven-way or any other electrical connector on the back of our vehicle, instead of just letting it hang and dangle we can actually mount it to our hitch using the bracket. Now, our bracket is going to be compatible for mounting a four-pole flat; four, five, and six-way connectors; the seven-way standard connector; seven-way OEM connectors. Now, to begin our installation we're going to need to open up our hose clamp here. Now, if we just take the screw and we flip it up, we can go ahead and pull the hose clamp out and open it up. Now in our application, we're going to be mounting our bracket on the bottom but you can mount it on the top as well.

We're just going to take the flat piece and we're going to line it up with the back of our hitch so it sits nice and square. So we're just going to have our bracket sit against the back of our hitch here, and then we can take our hose clamp and we're going to wrap it around our hitch. Then we're going to come down through the hole that's in our bracket. Now we can go ahead and take our clamp and feed it back through, and feed our hose clamp through. Pull some of the slack out, and then we can put the bolt back into position.

Then we can grab a 5/16 socket or nut driver and tighten up the bolt. With our bracket in place, we can go ahead and mount up our seven-way connector. Just take one of the provided screws in our kit, and when you feed it up through our connector bracket and through the long bracket, then we can take one of the supplied lock nuts and put it into place. We can repeat the same thing for the other side. Finally, we can come back and tighten up the screws using a Phillips head screwdriver. That will finish up our look at the tow-ready no-drill long bracket, part number 18136.

Installed easily to the Curt #13416 hitch installed on my 2019 RAV4 hybrid. 727580

Purchased this to support the receptacle in the 7-way ETBC7 kit for a 2010 Honda Odyssey. I was initially skeptical that it would grab securely onto a round hitch pipe (Hidden Hitch) but it does. In the picture, readers can see that I intentionally installed this 18136 bracket "upside down". There are two reasons: (1) Aftermarket hitch receivers ride fairly low on Odysseys and occasionally mine will scrape the road if there is a steep grade change. Not a big deal, but I did not want the ETBC7 receptacle to scrape the ground and be damaged. This way, the 18136 bracket might scrape, but the receptacle will be protected. (2) Mounting upside down also raises the ETBC7 about an inch, so that it is not hanging lower than the hitch receiver. I also mounted the ETBC7's bracket "backwards". This sets the receptacle a tad inside the profile of the bumper, so that if a shopping cart or something hits the bumper it will be less likely to impact the receptacle. Very pleased with this part, it's sturdier than it looks and gives the ETBC7 a solid platform when you can't or don't want to mount directly into the bumper of your vehicle. 348565

The bracket was great, and it fit the wiring harness and bracket combo that I purchased from etrailer (http://www.etrailer.com/Custom-Fit-Vehicle-Wiring/Toyota/Sequoia/2003/20137.html?vehicleid=2003203609). I'm only giving a "good" rating because the hose clamp included in the kit wouldn't hold tight. I ended up using some plastic tie wraps I had as a temporary measure until I can go to the store and purchase something that will work better. As always the service, communication and delivery from etrailer.com was flawless. 122476

I installed on my 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee within 5 minutes.I've searched many websites, and this one offers the best price, with cheap shipping and handling. I received the product in perfect condition, in what seems like 3 days after placing the order. The mounting bracket is very sturdy, and doesn't seem like it will bend or break, unless you purposely try to. I will highly recommend this to anyone. 348767

I haven't used the long one yet but I have used several short ones. They are rigid and the hose clamp works great as long as you line the connector up on the flat side of the receiver before you tighten it. You still have to buy the flat 4 or 5 pin or the round 5 or 7 pin socket mounting bracket to add onto the mount. I have bought tons of stuff from etrailer and I have yet to make a return, everything has been quality and has worked perfectly. Reasonable delivery times and I would highly recommend ordering from them. I just ordered hitches and trailer wiring for my kids cars. Came as expected and mounted them two weeks ago but I did not take any pictures. Sorry. Next time they are home from college I will get and post pics. Neil 559245

I bought the long bracket since I planned on adding a couple of bends to it. The bracket is something like 12 ga. steel so I had a metal shop make the bends. The picture shows how it mounted on the 2-1/2 in. square tube crossmember. I was very pleased with the result. Just make sure you have adequate clearance for the square tube when you make the bends if you mount it this way. Otherwise you'll have to throw it away and start over. 178288

The product purchased itself was of quality yet I was not pleased because the setup was for a 2012 Honda Pilot and the connector behind the bumper did not allow for and easy and seamless installation. I had to jury rig it so that I would have a connection to my trailer. If I had to do over, I would have paid extra and went to the HONDA dealer and purchased it there. 355346

The universal mounting bracket installed without a problem. My rounded hitch posed a slight problem for this model, though. I ended up placing a zip-tie to the backside of the bumper to try to keep it from falling down. Otherwise, it is still working great one year in even with deeper-than-average snow last winter. 403238

Great idea, Adam! As Plato said, necessity is the mother of invention, and you definitely problem-solved on this one! Since your pictures show a 4-way and 7-way connector, you could also use the Curt Easy Mount Bracket for 2-inch hitches Item C58000. This slips over your Curt 2-inch receiver and does not require drilling, either. Thanks again for sharing!

It worked well on my round tube hitch. I used two stainless steel clamps instead of the one that was included. If I try to push down on it, the bracket would bend before it rotated on the hitch tube.

Though they do not sit as easily on round tube as square tube, they are still very usable if mounted properly. Thanks for the input and the solution you used.

In the past year I have purchased two trailer hitches from etrailer, one for a 2019 Ford Escape and one for a 2012 Ford Fusion. Both orders included a trailer hitch, drawbar, hitch ball, connector vehicle wiring harness, rubber hitch cover, mounting bracket for a 4-pole flat plug, no-drill mounting bracket, and pin & clip for the hitch receiver. I was very satisfied with the etrailer web site for researching and ordering both trailer hitches. Also the "how to" videos are of great help during installation. Orders were processed quickly and shipped within one day and were received within two to three days (both in good condition). Also all products were high quality and fit both vehicles as described. Two small things popped up which were minor and caused no problems. There is no installation video with the Curt T-Connector Wiring Harness (C56048). To get around this I used the installation video for the T-One Wiring Harness (118422) which I puchased with my first order. Also the hose clamp for the No-Drill Mount Bracket (18136) was too long for the Curt Class I trailer hitch (C11390) I purchased. Could not tighten it enough. I had to buy a shorter clamp. These two issues were of no concern and if I were to look for another trailer hitch system, I would return to etrailer. Thanks 800509

Works great! Make sure you run the harness through before mounting, and keep in mind that the clam has a very long tail, so plan on trimming that. But it holds extremely solid. 797845

Received when stated, and installed perfectly! I was concerned that a clamp wouldn't be stable, but this provides a solid support to get the plug to the proper location without any movement once installed. 796511

Exactly as described both in writing and the video that showed how to install it in a Mazda CX-5 on the wiring harness page. Because of this, the Draw-Tite offers a better appearance as well as a couple of inches of additional ground clearance.
